Next up for completing her OFA hips, elbows & patella’s is Miss. Oaklynn Grace! 💗
Let’s talk about coat changes in browns and reds for a minute! Lightening comes from what’s called the progressive fading gene in poodles. 🐩 Whether it be at 6 months or 3 years, all red and brown haired doodles coats will eventually change. How much and when, is unknown. Unfortunately, there’s no genetic 🧬 testing out there that can be done to determine if a dog carries for the fading gene or the rufus gene. Rufus is when their red coat darkens, but that can be talked about in another post. ☺️ There is an intensity level test, but I’ve yet to have it reflect on how dark the coat or points are on any dogs or litters I’ve personally tested, or seen that were tested.
As a breeder, do I look to bring dogs into my program that have the least faded parents, yes! Does that guarantee they will not fade, no! Will every puppy produced fade the same as their parents, also no!
I will not wipe a dog from my program just because their coat color changed. My program focuses on health, temperament and properly structured dogs. If that’s not what you’re searching for when looking for the right breeder for you, you may want to look elsewhere. 🤷🏼♀️
Our Oaklynn is all I’ve ever wanted in a bernedoodle and exactly what I’ve looked for in a dog, once I knew I wanted to introduce a new breed into our program.
Her confident, friendly & biddable personality is something you don’t always find in a dog. We surely don’t love her any less, just because her coat has lightened! Those eyes melt my heart every day 😍🐾
