Raj is 5 now, and tonight we did a two-room Nosework search (he found smells I hid around the house), plus a little trick training and fitness. All together? Maybe 20 minutes. No walk. No frisbee.
Guess what he’s doing now? Out cold. 😴
Put in the work early and you can have an amazing, calm pup too!
Trick training and scent work are two of the BEST ways to tire your dog’s brain and build a deeper bond.
Want this for your dog? Send me a message and let’s get started. 🐾

"April is wonderful to work with. She was so patient with me and Doc my aussiedoodle. She would listen to what problems we were having and give helpful lessons to correct the behavior. Well worth the time and money. I now have the tools I need to make Doc a great dog. Thanks again."

We love hearing from our clients!

How to stop countersurfing 1. Management: Prevent Access
* Keep counters clear of food and tempting items.
* Use baby gates, closed doors, or crate your dog when you can’t actively supervise.
* This prevents practicing the unwanted behavior and sets your dog up for success.
2. Teach an Incompatible Behavior (Alternative to Counter Surfing)
* Train your dog to go to a specific spot (mat, bed, or crate) when you’re in the kitchen.
* Use a cue like “place” or “go to mat” and reward heavily with treats or toys.
* Gradually increase the duration your dog stays there while you cook or prepare food.
3. Use Positive Reinforcement for Leaving Counters Alone
* When your dog notices food on a counter but does not jump, mark the behavior immediately (“Yes!”) and reward.
* You can also use a “leave it” cue for items on the counter, reinforcing compliance with treats.
4. Gradually Increase Distractions and Proof the Behavior
* Practice with increasingly tempting foods visible on counters.
* If the dog attempts to counter surf, calmly redirect them to their “place” or use “leave it.”
* Consistently reward them for staying on the floor or their designated spot.
