In honor of the holiday season quickly approaching we would like to share a bit of information with you regarding pancreatitis. We see a surge in pancreatitis cases during the holidays.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ?

It is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas, an organ that produces digestive enzymes and regulates blood sugar.

๐’๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฌ:
Can be mild or severe, your pet may exhibit signs of lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration, and in more severe cases shock, organ damage. If left untreated possible death.

๐–๐ก๐ฒ ๐๐จ ๐ฐ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ž๐ž ๐š ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐š๐ฒ๐ฌ?

Access to fatty, rich human foods. If an animal is not accustomed to these foods they can quickly become ill after consuming them. Smaller breed dogs, older and/or animals with underlying health issues are more likely to become sick.

๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ.

- Keep your pet on their normal, balanced diet.
- Tell your guests that โ€œpeople foodโ€ is off limits, even if theyโ€™re giving you the sad puppy eyes.
- If your animal is a counter surfer or likes to steal, keep them somewhere safe while food is out.

Treating pancreatitis can be very costly, the short term satisfaction is not worth the risks associated.

MaryBeth has been at LVH for almost a year now and has been the ๐๐„๐‘๐…๐„๐‚๐“ addition to our team! Her caring, outgoing, and bold

Braelynn has been at LVH full time for a little over a year now and we are so thankful to have her here. She is currently in her second year of Vet Tech School at Blue Ridge Community College, she is also a Pharmacy Technician Licensed through the State of Virginia and she is Nationally Certified.๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’Š

October 13-19, 2024 is National Vet Tech Appreciation Week. We are excited to celebrate our awesome technicians while also educating the community on the responsibilities and duties of vet techs!

Vet techs play a vital role in caring for your furry friends and are an essential part of the team here at LVH. They truly do it ๐€๐‹๐‹, they are phlebotomists, lab techs, surgical techs, anesthetists, x-ray techs, dental hygienist, nutritionist, hug givers, AND chew toys, whoโ€™s mission is to provide the best possible care to your fur babies!๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’‰
