Not many people realize that one of my specialized clients is pets with behavioral issues, or as I call them, misunderstood pets. I love the moments when a dog, cat, or any animal feels safe enough to lower their guard. You can see it in their eyes: their little bodies relax, and they lean into any love I offer. I had a significant breakthrough with the pup I'm watching now. She is very protective of her momma, but even when her mom was away, this pup kept her walls up. Within a day, she showed me why her walls are so high. She is such an amazing pup that people should have to earn the privilege to become one of her people. Once her walls came down, I lost any personal space, but I love every second of it. Every time I experience this, it blows me away and melts my heart; it's one of my favorite parts of this job.
