True or false: Dogs can sweat just like humans do? 🐾☀️ (The answer might surprise you! Read below 👇)
The answer is... mostly false, but a little bit true! 🤯
While dogs don't sweat through their skin to cool down like we do, they actually do have sweat glands located right in their paw pads! If you've ever noticed damp paw prints on your floors on a scorching day, your pup was trying to cool themselves down.
Because they only have those tiny glands in their feet, their primary way to beat the heat is panting. But when the Kentucky summer humidity hits, panting isn’t always enough.
As The Dog Nanny, here is my favorite, fun backyard trick to help your pups regulate their temperature safely: The Shaded Kiddie Pool! 🌊🌳
Setting up a cheap plastic kiddie pool in a completely shaded area of your yard is a total game-changer. When dogs step into the cool water, it immediately cools down those paws and blood vessels, bringing their body temperature down fast. Plus, it's a blast for them to splash around in!
Just remember the gold standard of summer safety:
🚨 NEVER leave your pet in a parked car! Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can reach dangerous, life-threatening levels in mere minutes. Leave them safe at home!
💦 Always provide access to plenty of fresh, cold water.
🚫 Never leave your pup unsupervised in the sun.
⏰ Keep outdoor activities restricted to early mornings or late evenings.
If you are planning to travel this summer, let’s make sure your fur baby is staying safe, cool, and completely pampered while you're away.

ell me your dog rules the house without telling me your dog rules the house. I’ll go first… 👇 😂
As a pet caregiver in the greater Louisville area, I get to see firsthand just how beautifully "extra" we are for our dogs, and I am 100% here for it.
Here are some real-life routines from my clients:
👑 I have clients who wash their dog’s feet every single night before they are allowed under the covers.
👑 I have clients who have to gourmet-mix fresh turkey into every single meal.
👑 And I’ve talked to potential clients who literally have to hand-feed their pup piece by piece, straight from their palm, or he won't eat.
Some people call it spoiled, but around here, we just call it standard service!
When you hire a boutique, one-on-one pet nanny instead of using a standard kennel, you aren't just paying for basic care. You're paying for someone who will happily honor their exact, highly specific royal routines so they don't miss a beat while you're gone. (And yes, Mr. Harley absolutely gets his special bedtime treat every single night!)
☀️ Summer is here and July 4th week is filling up! Whether your pup needs house sitting, boarding, or drop-in visits with their specific routine handled to perfection, let’s get them on the calendar.
Send a DM today to check availability and keep your pup living in the luxury they are accustomed to! ✨🐕

Swipe to see what "Teddy chilling at the pool" actually looks like!
Yes, that is Mr. Teddy sprawled out on top of the patio table. I was out here cleaning my client's pool—because as The Dog Nanny, I’m all about going above and beyond for my families! Teddy decided he needed the executive manager's view to make sure I didn't miss a spot. 😂
Looking at him now, you’d think he’s the most confident guy in the world. But Teddy is actually incredibly fearful of new humans and dogs. When we first met, he was terrified of me, too.
Watching an anxious pup go from hiding to completely relaxing and showing off his goofy personality like this is the absolute best reward. He just needed patience, time, and premium care that honors his boundaries.
🎆 Speaking of anxious pups... the 4th of July is coming up fast! 🎆
For dogs who struggle with fear and loud noises, it can be the scariest week of the year. If you are traveling for the holiday, don't leave your sensitive pup to panic.
I still have a few openings left for overnight house sitting, in-home boarding, and drop-in visits around the greater Louisville area.
Let’s give your dog a safe, calm holiday with a nanny they trust. Send me a DM to lock in your summer dates! 🐾✨

Do they stick to you like glue, start panting even though it’s cool in the house, or give you those intense "whale eyes" where you can see the whites of their eyes?

So many pet parents I talk to around Louisville feel guilty leaving their dogs because they know their pup struggles with being alone. But did you know that dogs often show subtle signs of anxiety long before they ever cry or chew on something they shouldn't?

Here are 3 subtle signs your dog is actually feeling stressed or anxious:

1️⃣ The "Dry Yawn": If your dog is yawning when they aren't even tired—like right when you start putting on your jacket—it’s actually a classic way dogs try to naturally calm themselves down from stress.
2️⃣ Lip Licking: Flicking their tongue out to lick their nose or lips repeatedly (when there's no food around) is a major sign of nervousness.
3️⃣ Hyper-Vigilance: Not being able to settle down, pacing from window to window, or tracking your every move with wide eyes.

💡 My Top Dog Nanny Tip: For an anxious dog, a standard, fast-paced pet care setup can sometimes add to their overwhelm. They thrive on quiet predictability, gentle transitions, and one-on-one companionship.

That is exactly why I designed my services the way I did. Whether it's keeping them in the safety of their own home with overnight house sitting, giving them a peaceful retreat with in-home boarding, or breaking up their day with a familiar face during a drop-in visit, my focus is entirely on keeping their stress levels at zero.

Let's give your anxious pup the calm, personalized care they deserve. Send me a DM to check my availability for next month! 🏡✨

Today, we take a moment to honor and remember all the brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are incredibly grateful for their service and dedication, and our hearts are with all the military families in our community today.

As you fire up the grill or wrap up your long weekend gatherings around Louisville, I hope you all get to enjoy some beautiful, relaxing quality time with the ones you love—including the four-legged family members!

If your holiday plans mean you’re out of the house for the day or heading back home from a trip, I want to give a quick shout-out to all my amazing clients who trusted me to watch their pups over the long weekend. Making sure your babies are safe, happy, and loved is the absolute best job in the world. ❤️

My calendar for the upcoming summer months is filling up fast! If you have any future travel plans, long workdays ahead, or weekend getaways on the horizon, let's get your pup scheduled for some in-home boarding, overnight house sitting, or regular drop-in visits.

Wishing everyone in our community a beautiful, safe, and meaningful Memorial Day!

Drop a comment below: What is your dog’s absolute favorite, weirdest sleeping position when they are completely exhausted? 🛌😂💤

If your house has been full of family, cookouts, or different schedules this holiday weekend, your pup might be running on empty—even if they seem like they have endless energy right now!

A lot of pet parents don't realize that dogs actually need between 12 to 14 hours of sleep a day. When they don't get it because of holiday chaos, they don't just quietly go take a nap. Instead, they get over-stimulated and overtired. An overtired dog looks a lot like a toddler who missed naptime. They might start zooming around like crazy, barking at things they usually ignore, or showing extra separation anxiety when you step out of the room. They are simply exhausted and don't know how to turn their brains off!

💡 My Top Dog Nanny Tip: When things get hectic, try giving your dog a designated "quiet zone" in a back room away from the noise, with a favorite blanket and a comforting chew toy. A solid 2-hour uninterrupted break can completely reset their mood.

Keeping a steady, predictable routine is the number one way to prevent that deep anxiety and exhaustion.

That is exactly what I specialize in. Whether it’s maintaining their exact home schedule with my overnight house sitting, giving them a peaceful retreat with in-home boarding, or stopping by for calm drop-in visits to break up a loud day, I make sure your pup's mental well-being is always the top priority.

Let's protect your pup's peace—and yours! Send me a DM to check my schedule for your next busy week or weekend getaway. 🐾

Are they a regular at a local park, do they love joining you on the patio at a brewery, or is their favorite "adventure" just doing high-speed zoomies across the backyard like this sweet pup right here? 😂🏃‍♂️💨

Now that the weather is beautiful and the holiday weekend is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to get out and explore with our four-legged best friends. I am always looking for new pet-friendly recommendations around town to share with my clients!

But let’s be honest—as much as we’d love to bring our dogs everywhere, sometimes our weekend plans include places they just can’t go (like crowded festivals, busy restaurants, or day trips out of town).

If you ever want to head out for a day of human-only fun without feeling the pet-parent guilt, that’s exactly why I'm here!

With my drop-in visits, your pup gets their own fun backyard playtime, potty breaks, and plenty of one-on-one attention right at home while you're out. And if you're planning a longer getaway, my in-home boarding and house sitting keep them completely pampered and safe.

Tell me your favorite local dog spots below so I can add them to my list! 👇

I snapped this picture of a sweet pup while eating at a restaurant in St. Lucia, and it reminded me that no matter where you are in the world, a dog standing guard by a dinner table looks exactly the same! 😂

With Memorial Day weekend officially kicking off, a lot of backyards across the Louisville area are about to be filled with the smell of grills firing up. While we love to include our fur babies in the family fun, holiday BBQs can actually be a bit of a minefield for them.

Here are 3 common backyard food hazards to keep far away from your pup this weekend:

1️⃣ Cooked Bones: Chicken wings and ribs are summer staples, but once cooked, these bones splinter easily and can cause serious internal damage.
2️⃣ Onions & Garlic: Whether they're mixed into burger patties or toppings on a hot dog, these are actually toxic to dogs and can cause major stomach issues.
3️⃣ The "Trash Raider": Corn on the cob discarded in the bin is a huge blockage hazard because dogs love the sweet taste but their bodies can't break down the cob.

💡 My Top Dog Nanny Tip: If you want your pup to join the party safely, freeze some dog-safe fruits like blueberries or watermelon chunks ahead of time! It gives them a refreshing summer treat of their own while the humans eat.

If your holiday weekend plans mean you'll be running around or away from home for a big family gathering, don't let your pup get left out of the loop. My drop-in visits and house sitting services ensure they get their own potty breaks, fresh water, and plenty of love right at home—completely stress-free.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend, everyone! 🇺🇸✨
