True or false: Dogs can sweat just like humans do? 🐾☀️ (The answer might surprise you! Read below 👇)
The answer is... mostly false, but a little bit true! 🤯
While dogs don't sweat through their skin to cool down like we do, they actually do have sweat glands located right in their paw pads! If you've ever noticed damp paw prints on your floors on a scorching day, your pup was trying to cool themselves down.
Because they only have those tiny glands in their feet, their primary way to beat the heat is panting. But when the Kentucky summer humidity hits, panting isn’t always enough.
As The Dog Nanny, here is my favorite, fun backyard trick to help your pups regulate their temperature safely: The Shaded Kiddie Pool! 🌊🌳
Setting up a cheap plastic kiddie pool in a completely shaded area of your yard is a total game-changer. When dogs step into the cool water, it immediately cools down those paws and blood vessels, bringing their body temperature down fast. Plus, it's a blast for them to splash around in!
Just remember the gold standard of summer safety:
🚨 NEVER leave your pet in a parked car! Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can reach dangerous, life-threatening levels in mere minutes. Leave them safe at home!
💦 Always provide access to plenty of fresh, cold water.
🚫 Never leave your pup unsupervised in the sun.
⏰ Keep outdoor activities restricted to early mornings or late evenings.
If you are planning to travel this summer, let’s make sure your fur baby is staying safe, cool, and completely pampered while you're away.
