Today was a hard day at Rewilded Market Louisa.

Today was Welcome Home, a gathering we created to celebrate dogs who joined their families during the month of August.

We invited our community to bring their dogs, add their paw to the Mark of the Wild™, receive a little Welcome Home gift and spend some time in a place created for them.

No one came.

And I won’t pretend that wasn’t disappointing.

Since reopening on Sundays this month, we’ve heard how much people want Rewilded Market to remain in Louisa. We’ve heard requests for grooming, self-wash and additional services. We hear that this community needs more for its dogs.

We want that too.

But Rewilded Market has never been just a store. It was created as a place for dogs and their people to gather, explore, connect and belong. Shopping has always been secondary.

And for us to continue building here, there has to be participation in what’s already here.

As a small business, we have to listen to both things: what our community tells us it wants and what our community shows us it will support.

Today was difficult.

But we’re not finished with August yet.

Next Sunday is Lab Day, and we’ll be opening these doors again from 12–4 PM.

We’ll be here.

The day they became yours.

The car ride home. The first night. The first time they realized they were staying. The beginning of the life you’ve built together.

At the Rewilded Market™ Louisa, we think that day deserves to be celebrated.

That’s why every month we host Welcome Home our celebration for the dogs whose adoption or Gotcha Day anniversary falls that month.

This Sunday from 12-4PM, we’re celebrating our August dogs.

Louisa, you showed up today. 🐾

It was so good to be back with you.

Today was filled with familiar faces, new faces, conversations, questions, and most importantly dogs.

I got to listen. I got to learn more about what your dogs need. And I got to watch them experience Rewilded Market exactly the way I always hoped they would.

With space to just be.

Hondo was one of those dogs today. He came in, took his time, explored the Market, sniffed the shelves, moved through the space at his own pace and blossomed beautifully.

That matters to me.

Rewilded Market isn’t just about what you take home in a shopping bag. It’s about creating a place where dogs are considered in the experience, where they aren’t expected to perform, and where their people can slow down, ask questions, find what they need, and enjoy being together.

Today reminded me why we opened these doors in the first place.

Thank you, Louisa. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for bringing your dogs. Thank you for allowing me to listen, learn, and continue building a Market centered around them.

I truly believe this is the start of something beautiful.

One question has continued to come our way…

“When are you reopening?”

Many of you have reached out asking when we’d be back. I’m excited to share that Rewilded Market Louisa will be open every Sunday throughout the month of August.

I wanted to personally open the doors again and spend time with the people and dogs who have supported Rewilded Market, while also welcoming those visiting us for the very first time.

Whether you’re stopping in to stock up on your dog’s favorite treats, chews, raw food, enrichment, supplements, or wellness essentials or simply want to explore the market with your dog we’d love to see you.

For nearly 30 years, dogs have been at the heart of everything I do, and that commitment remains the foundation of Rewilded Market.

An Honest Update About Rewilded Market Louisa

When Rewilded Market opened in Louisa, this location was not originally part of our expansion plans.

We came because someone from this community believed in what we had built in Fredericksburg and asked us to bring something different to Louisa for dogs and the people who love them. After many conversations, we agreed.

That person is no longer involved with this location after only a few months.

We are sharing that because transparency matters to us. The original plan depended heavily on having someone local to lead and operate this space, and without that involvement, the vision we opened with is no longer sustainable in its current form.

We are now at a crossroads.

Rewilded Market Louisa will not continue as a traditional retail market. The space is also not suited for daycare, and grooming will not be part of the direction moving forward.

However, before deciding that closing completely is the only answer, we want to hear directly from the community.

What would you genuinely like to see offered here for Louisa’s dogs and their people?

Would this community benefit from dog training, puppy experiences, private behavior support, wellness education, small gatherings, workshops, or something else?

For more than 12 years, we have served dogs and their families by listening, adapting, and creating spaces where dogs are treated with respect, compassion, and understanding. If there is a realistic way for us to use this location to support Louisa, we are willing to explore it.

If there is not, we will close the location rather than force a concept that no longer works.
