Louie and I encountered a young boy, I guess he was about six on a park trail with his grandparents. Louie was on leash and in a sit, we were making room for the family to pass. Without warning that I could see the boy ran up grabbed Louie on either side of his face and kissed him on his nose. Louie thankfully just wagged his tail. Grandma and Grandpa thought it was precious, I thought it was a su***de attempt. Now, I trust Louie about 98.9% of the time not to bite ( Unless you are possum, if you are possum you better run) but.......he does have teeth, big ones. If that boy had been too rough or whatever Louie could have easily bit him right in the face, which I understand is pretty common when dog and kid encounters go wrong. Anyway, I ended up explaining to the little boy and his grandparents that not all dogs are friendly or have solid temperaments. Not sure if I made an impression on them but it did on me. Good dog, Louie, all 100 pounds of you with inch long teeth.
It's Dog Bite Prevention Week and one of the most important steps in avoiding dog bites is teaching children how to act around dogs and how to respect dogs. Be responsible!
