After 1,185 days, 9 delayed hearings, and the loss of 11 dogs and cats, a Beijing court has finally sentenced the person responsible for poisoning neighborhood pets to 4 years in prison.
Among the victims was a small West Highland Terrier named Papi.
For more than three years, Papi’s owner refused to let the case disappear. She kept pushing for answers, not only for her own dog, but for every pet whose life had been taken the same way.
This ruling may seem like just one case.
But for many pet parents, it means something much bigger.
It means that the lives of animals — so often ignored in legal systems — are finally beginning to be taken seriously.
Because anyone who has ever loved a pet already knows the truth:They are never “just animals.”They are family.
“I’m not afraid.
From now on, the only place I’ll be able to see you is through AI.
But it’s okay, PP. I’m not afraid. I’m not afraid of anything anymore.“- Papi’s Mom
