On Purpose Dog Training

On Purpose Dog Training Creating purposeful pups and confident owners through positive reinforcement training.

06/29/2026

There's one thing that most separates puppies who grow into confident, easygoing adults from those who grow into anxious, reactive, hard-to-manage ones. It's not breed. It's not luck. It's what happens in the first several months.

The experiences your puppy has right now are literally shaping their brain. How they respond to new people, new places, strange sounds, other dogs, being handled at the vet, all of it is being wired in during this window. And it's far easier to build confidence now than to rebuild it later.

That doesn't mean exposing your puppy to everything all at once. It means the right experiences, at the right pace, with the right support, that's what makes the difference between a dog who moves through the world with confidence and one who spends their life unsure of it.

If you've got a new puppy, this window is the most valuable training time you'll ever have with them. It's worth being intentional about it.

Happy to help if you want to make the most of it!

When a dog knows how to settle comfortably in their crate, everyone wins.

Your dog stays safe, relaxed, and occupied. While you are away, you know your dog is not destroying your house, eating things they shouldn’t and not packing. not pacing, not panicking.

Crate calm isn’t about confinement.
It’s about teaching dogs how to relax in a predictable space where good things happen.

That’s how we create safer dogs, calmer homes, and clearer communication.

Crate calmness doesn’t happen overnight.
It’s built through small, positive reps.

As a puppy, he learned that the crate was a place to relax because good things happened there, like a chew he genuinely enjoyed.

Providing an appropriate outlet helps dogs self-soothe, settle, and choose calm on their own. Over time, the crate becomes a safe, predictable space instead of something to fight.

This is how we create calm crates and stress-free homes.

But it doesn’t start at the par or around other dogs or with big distractions.

It starts here in a quiet space, with simple, clear reps your dog can win.

With Bean, we’re building the foundation:
✔️ Controlled environment

Only once this is solid do we raise the difficulty.

Strong recall isn’t luck it’s layers of good training.

Leave it’ is one of the most important skills you can teach your dog.

It builds impulse control, improves focus, and can keep them safe around food, trash, or anything they shouldn’t grab.

Here, Bean learns to ignore dropped treats and check back in with me for the reward m, calm, clear, and positive.

A reliable ‘leave it’ makes life easier for both of you.

Most dogs don’t pull because they’re ‘bad’, they pull because they were never taught how to walk here. 👣🐶

This is Bloq, a high-energy Pit who usually charges ahead. In our first session, we worked in a quiet yard with zero distractions… and look at him now, calmly walking by my side.

If your dog can’t walk like this in a controlled environment, there’s no way they’ll succeed in public around people, dogs, smells, and sounds.

Start small. Start slow. Build the skill before adding the chaos.

Impulse Control isn’t about commands, it’s about focus under movement.

Here, Bean holds his position while I walk a full circle around him. This builds impulse control, confidence, and the ability to stay settled even when the world is moving.

If your dog breaks position the moment you step away, this is the drill to start with. Small reps, big results.

Before you teach your dog anything, you have to teach them that engaging with you means good things happen!

With Bean, I’m building excitement and focus by saying his name, marking with ‘yes,’ and rewarding quickly. This charges the marker, boosts motivation, and gets him tuned in so real training becomes effortless.

If your dog isn’t responding to their name or isn’t excited to work with you this is where to start.
