Urgent Call to Action: Protect the Endangered Species Act Today!

The US Fish and Wildlife Service has announced a proposal that could drastically alter the Endangered Species Act (ESA), undermining its very purpose. Since its inception, the ESA has been a beacon of hope for imperiled species, protecting them from harm and preserving their habitats. Now, we must rally together to safeguard this vital legislation.

Currently, the ESA prohibits harm to endangered species, defining "harm" as "take," which includes actions that kill, injure, or significantly impair essential behavioral patterns. However, the proposed change seeks to delete this definition, effectively nullifying the ESA's protective measures. This would have catastrophic consequences, allowing federal agencies to bypass impact studies and environmental assessments, as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

The repercussions of this change would be felt far and wide, impacting not only the majestic Bald Eagle but also the rare plants in our valley and the precious natural world that surrounds us. We must act swiftly to prevent this detrimental decision from becoming a reality.

The public has until May 19th to submit comments to the agency. We urge you to join us in this critical effort, making your voice heard and standing up for the protection of endangered species. Your comments can be submitted via the link below.
