Golden Years Dog Sanctuary

Golden Years Dog Sanctuary Saving senior dogs so they may enjoy the last bit of their life with love and freedom from cages. Fostering at risk cats and kittens from local shelters.

Golden years dog sanctuary is our way to help senior dogs. My husband and I rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them the best of the rest of their life. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; we went to the shelters instead. we always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else

wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time. we became a 501c so those who would like to help up feed and care for these dogs can make their contribution tax deductible. We have expanded our rescue efforts by fostering dogs as well as always having 18 at the sanctuary. join us in saving a life: Foster or adopt today.

Its been a little over a week since someone dumped a dog in her crate on our driveway at 5:30 in the morning. She's very sweet and very terrified. She's getting braver every day. She's good with the other dogs at the sanctuary. Of course, no one has stepped forward to claim her. We have to hold onto her for 30 days after which time we can adopt her out, we will get her spayed and get her vaccinated. If anyone's interested in fostering or adopting, please reach out. We need to fond her a home! She needs someone who is dog savvy and can work with her. We spend time with her every day. I think when she comes outside, she'll be better. Right now she is afraid of people standing up, and is afraid of the leash, but when you sit down on the ground, she's really happy to greet us. It will take time for her to realize good people exist and she can trust us. We're willing to be patient, and can't wait for the day when she happily comes out of her room for a walk, a treat, and attention.

Today, June 12, 2026, we had a freedom roll for 10 year old hershey, from the carson shelter. His new name is Caleb. This poor dog with severe hind end mobility issues came to the shelter as a stray. When he came into the shelter, he could walk, but he was weak. The networkers took a video of him standing up and walking. He came out of the shelter, paralyzed in his hind end. we are keeping our fingers crossed its not myleopathy and that with medication, time, and a loving foster home, he may get better. He did see our veterinarian today and had blood work done. x rays were done at the shelter, and those were sent to our veterinarian. While we wait to see what we may be able to do to help him, we know that he's in a wonderful home. I'm sure he'll have a great sleep tonight, and tomorrow he will start the best for the rest of his life.

Apparently, I don't know how to say no. I also can't seem to take good pictures of dogs today. But I do have great news, and that is that finnikiss, from the West Valley shelter is safe. We rescued him today :). The sweet dog found himself at the shelter in 2012 as a one year old dog, he was adopted out the bext day, or perhaps claimed by his owners. he was in a family for fourteen years, and then they surrendered him. They said that he was fearful and anxious with people and other dogs. I should have taken more video at the vet's office today because he was friendly with everyone and the dogs. He went to his foster this afternoon. He's available for adoption. He is the sweetest 14-year-old terrier mix of some sort. We can't do this without your help. Hudson, needs a forever home NOW! Hudson is a large, 6 year old neutered male tabby who was surrendered to the Santa Clarita valley shelter on April 11, after he bit a child. We don't know what the circumstance was that led to that, and we don't know what happened after. However, we do know that he became incredibly hissy and frightened at the shelter. When we took him into foster on April 24, he immediately liked my husband and was afraid of me. It's taken him a while, but now he is no longer gender, exclusive, and he likes both of us. We can pet him, we can pick him up. We can play with him. He gets along with other cats. He is very friendly and we need to get him a home Aasap. In the past, when we can't get our cats adopted through foster, we bring them back to the shelter to get adopted. But that just starts the over stress and trauma of being in the shelter afain, so, going back to the shelter to get seen and adopted is not an option. He has to get adopted from someone, liking him in our foster, home. And that has to happen soon as we've had him in foster, for over six weeks! our ability to foster relies on our success of our program of being able to socialize these cats AND get them adopted. So somebody please step up today. Come meet hudson and add love and joy to your life! When hudson was adopted, we can then help another fearful cat at the shelter.Get socialized and saved. It with tears in my eyes, I have to share that our sweet cottonelle passsed away on June 8, 2026. We rescued cottonelle, aka minty, from the north central shelter last december. She was surrendered to the shelter just before Thanksgiving. She was a super sweet, 10-year-old dog who was super skinny and had a matted coat. When we first rescued her, she had one of the worst teeth our vet had ever seen. And we had her dental done as soon as possible. Her foster felt madly in love with her and adopted her on January 2, 2026. Unfortunately, cottonelle also had kidney disease. We monitored her kidney disease very closely with periodic checks of her blood work and urine. She was on supplements and a kidney diet. Cottonelle looked and felt fabulous. Last week, she had a very bad couple of days. Even though her blood work was not bad, she didn't want to eat. We gave her some fluids and a B12 shot, and she rallied for a few days and even had an appetite. but by monday, she told us she was done. We never want our dogs to suffer, so Paige held her in her arms until we set goodbye. rip cottonelle

Drumroll please.....we did it! Philip from the east valley shelter is safe! Philip had a euthanasia date of last friday. We didn't have a foster for him, we knew we would find a foster, so we asked the shelter for an extension and they gave us until tuesday. Over the weekend we verified our foster. on monday we confirmed our pull, and today we snagged him out of the shelter. We didn't get an exit video, so we took this cute little video of him walking down the hallway of the veterinarian office. Philip, now Cypress, is the sweetest thing! We rescued him and immediately took him to our veterinarian for an exam and bloodwork. He has an amazing foster and we know he will have the best of the rest of his life.

Yesterday we rescued 15 year old Chloe, from the downey shelter. she came in as a stray, but she had an old microchip number. Her birthdate is listed as April 1, 2011. no joke, she's fifteen years old and was dumped at the shelter. Thankfully, we found a most wonderful foster who's willing to give her the best of the rest of her life. We named her challah, which is bread in hebrew. She will see our vet at the beginning of this weej, and we'll get a better idea what we need to do to help her. We know she needs yo gaun weight. She also has a little bit of separation anxiety, so we're working on that. Its very typical for dogs when they first get out of the shelter. Thankfully our foster is patient and loving and helping challah feel comfortable and realize she is hit the jackpot with this home.
