Nathan Chasing Horse has been sentenced to life in prison in Nevada after being convicted on multiple sexu@l assault charges involving Indigenous women and girls.

A jury found him guilty of 13 counts, including charges involving a minor. Prosecutors said the conduct spanned nearly two decades.

In court, prosecutors said he used his self-described role as a spiritual leader to gain trust and access within Indigenous communities.

During sentencing, victims and their families addressed the court, describing lasting impacts. The outcome is being recognized as a significant moment of accountability.

Chasing Horse denied the allegations and called the outcome a “miscarriage of justice.”

He was also known for his role in Dances With Wolves.

Additional legal matters related to the case remain pending in Canada.

Should Stolen Native Lands Be Returned?

Across the United States, many Indigenous leaders including voices from tribal nations such as the Cherokee Nation, Navajo Nation, and Lakota communities continue calling for deeper discussions about ancestral lands, treaty obligations, and possible land restoration.

Supporters say many Native lands were taken through broken treaties, forced displacement, or government actions, and that returning certain lands or expanding tribal stewardship could help address historical injustice.

Why this matters:
• Supports conversations about reconciliation and fairness
• Protects sacred sites and cultural heritage
• Strengthens tribal self-determination and land stewardship

Others argue land ownership today involves complex legal, economic, and historical questions that may require shared solutions rather than outright transfers.

Question for you:
Should stolen Native lands be returned?

Comment YES or NO.

The significance of the buffalo extends far beyond its role as a food source for numerous Indigenous nations across North America. These animals are intricately linked to ceremony, kinship, trade, shelter, clothing, spirituality, and the overall balance of life on the Plains. The symbiotic relationship between entire cultures and the buffalo has spanned generations. The near-extermination of buffalo populations in the 19th century had far-reaching consequences that were not limited to the ecological realm. The destruction also had a profound cultural impact. This historical context imbues the modern-day movement to restore buffalo populations with profound significance. Lily Gladstone, actress and producer of Piegan Blackfeet and Nez Perce heritage, played a pivotal role in raising awareness about this initiative through the documentary *Bring Them Home (Aiskótáhkapiyaaya)*. The film documents the efforts of the Blackfoot Confederacy to reintroduce buffalo to ancestral lands following a century-long separation. Directed by Blackfeet filmmakers Ivan and Ivy MacDonald alongside Daniel Glick, the documentary examines the connection between buffalo restoration and cultural healing, language preservation, ecological restoration, and the transmission of traditional knowledge to younger generations. For many Indigenous communities, buffalo restoration is a multifaceted endeavor that transcends conservation. It involves the revitalization of relationships. By facilitating the regeneration of prairie ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, and reconnecting communities to ceremonies and teachings, buffalo help to restore a vital component of Indigenous life. The return of the buffalo is often described by elders and advocates as a crucial step towards healing both the land and the people. Furthermore, this movement has fostered collaboration between tribes, conservation groups, and parks across North America, leading to the establishment of protected herds and Indigenous-led stewardship programs. The resurgence of buffalo populations serves as a powerful symbol of restoration and hope. For future generations, the sight of buffalo roaming ancestral lands is more than symbolic; it represents a living connection to identity, memory, and survival.

A Saskatchewan mother’s Facebook post is resonating across Turtle Island after she shared photos of her son Ryland building his own grass dance regalia out of cardboard because he wanted to dance.

“My son really wants an outfit. He wants one so bad he started making his own out of cardboard,” Darcellyn Sapp-Baptiste shared.

Community response quickly followed.

Powwow dancers, artists, families, and community members began offering bells, moccasins, beadwork supplies, mentorship — and even full outfits — to help Ryland step into the circle.

Others also honored the cardboard regalia itself, with one commenter calling it “the kind of ingenuity our ancestors would have praised.”

Days later, Darcellyn shared that enough support had come in to help outfit Ryland, including a synthetic roach, aprons, beadwork supplies, a concho belt, and a donated grass dance outfit.

As for the cardboard regalia — Ryland says he’s keeping it.

“He said, ‘I’m gonna show my future kids my masterpiece,’” Darcellyn wrote.

💌 To our precious daughter
From the moment we felt your presence, our world softened, slowed, and became sacred. And now, as we hold you in our arms, we understand that you are more than a child… you are a prayer answered, a spirit sent with purpose, a light entrusted to our care.

You came to us wrapped in silence and wonder, carrying a wisdom older than words. Your breath is gentle, yet it echoes through our souls like a sacred song. In your tiny hands, you hold the future. In your eyes, we see truth, purity, and the reflection of something divine.

We promise to walk beside you, not ahead of you… to guide you, but never dim your spirit. We will teach you the strength of your roots, the beauty of your voice, and the power of your heart. May you always feel the whispers of the earth, the protection of your ancestors, and the love that surrounds you from all directions.

You are our daughter, our blessing, our miracle.
And in this life, and beyond, we are forever grateful that your soul chose ours.

Welcome to this world, little one. ❤️
