Heads up for everyone

You may have noticed some concerning posts recently about local cats being diagnosed with Bobcat Fever, or Cytauxzoonosis.

Cytauxzoon are single-celled organisms that affect the blood and tissues of animals, initially causing fatigue and fever, quickly followed by diarrhea, vomiting, jaundice, weight loss, labored breathing, and more. If you notice any of these symptoms in your pet, seek veterinary care asap.

This parasitic organism is spread most commonly by tick bite, so the most effective way to avoid infection is to keep your cat safely indoors and to use prescription-strength tick prevention. If you suspect your cat is infected, or if you'd like to discuss prevention, call or text our clinic for an appointment at 812-333-MCHA (6242).
