You've probably heard of the "Two Wrinkle Rule" - the idea that a bit should create two wrinkles at the corners of your horse's mouth. But here's the truth: this rule is inaccurate and should be left in the past!

It is an outdated and overgeneralized way to determine bit fit, originally developed to help non-horsey cavalry soldiers safely and uniformly tack up their mounts for battle. The idea was, if the bit was high enough to cause two wrinkles, the bridle was deemed tight enough and would not come off during battle. But modern knowledge of horse's anatomy means that the old traditions of bitting should die out, and we need to pay attention to how the bit sits INSIDE our horses' mouths, and not just how it looks on the outside.

Every horse has a unique mouth. Some have fuller lips, others a longer smile, thicker tongue, or deeper palate grooves - all of which affect how a bit sits and feels. For some, two wrinkles might cause the bit to crash into their teeth or get caught under their tongue.

✅ Fit should be based on comfort and function, not tradition.
✅ Watch your horse's response - not the number of wrinkles.
✅ A well-fitted bit supports relaxation, softness, and clear communication.

Need help finding the right fit? We're happy to help assess or refer you to a trusted bit fitter. Your horse's comfort matters.

Thanks to the support of The United States Pony Clubs Inc., (USPC) Official Page, I will be able to attend this 3 day jumping workshop. With all the love, through the Eleanor Brennan Memorial Fund.

I am deeply appreciative to the USEA & USPC for combining their powers through education in the Eventing Coaches Program.

Our lovely host, Jigsaw Farms is the perfect welcoming environment to learn & grow.

Before you call the vet, get the horses TPR! Practice, before an emergency!

You may have heard our vets use the phrase “TPR” during appointments- this is what they mean!

One of the first things that we do during an exam is check their vital signs (TPR).

T- Temperature 🌡️ A horses temperature should be somewhere between 99° and 101°. We recommend having your own non-flexible tip thermometer to be able to check your horses temperature at home.

P- Pulse 🩺 A horses pulse should be between 30 and 44 beats per minute.

R- Respiration 💨 A horses respiration rate should be between 8 and 16 breaths per minute. This can be measured by watching your horses nostrils or stomach during breathing.

Edited: 5/27/2025 clinic is now full! 🤗

One spot opened up for my Saturday 5/31 CSDEA mini-clinic @ Pheasant View Farm.

I went out to Ginger Cantor’s Pheasant View lastnight. It’s really a great open space in the middle with off shoots of lightly wooded trails & jumps. Different ditches, banks & friendly open water.

The registration on the website is closed, but the organizer is happy to help you get signed up & paid! You can contact Jessica Tufariello.

Thank you, Ginger, Jessica & CSDEA. Let me know if I can be helpful!

📣 Attention all volunteers! 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ We need YOUR help to ensure our upcoming clinic at Ginger Cantor's Pheasant View Farm with Sarah Bam Malecha runs smoothly! Whether you can dedicate a half or whole day, your assistance is crucial to our success.

A half-day commitment from 9:00AM until noon (AM volunteer) , with an additional 30-45 minutes required for setup before the clinic. As a volunteer, you'll help keep the clinic on schedule and assist attendees with any questions. Don't worry – we'll provide you with all necessary information beforehand.

Plus, here's an extra incentive: volunteers can audit the clinic for free, even if you're not riding! Additionally, volunteers will receive fantastic perks, including ½ off your entry fee, a free stall (if available), and a complimentary lunch.

Ready to join the fun? Reach out to us today and be part of the action! 🏇🌟

A shout out to Jen Selvig-our wonderful friend, vet, keeper of our ponies & general motivator of all. Her and her first homebred “Blueshift”, finished 2nd on a 33.5 in the OT.

Thank you to Christine for having a great hang out space & sharing your BabyBae. Thank you to Beth for SJ scribing! Thank you Bob & Erin for making all things sound happen, I loved learning all about it. And, thank you to the Warners for hosting a wonderful Horse Trial so many of us call home.

Volunteers needed for CSDEA Mini Clinics!!!! There are some really great perks ;-) You also do not need to be horse savvy, just able to hold one if a rider needs to run to the bathroom. Basic "horse show dad" level knowledge. Most of the time you get to watch the clinic and hang out, maybe hand someone their water. Super easy. Also parents, spouses, and friends can volunteer. You don't have to be a rider. If you want the credit to go towards someone we can do that. If you want the credit to go towards your ride in a 2025 mini clinic on a different date we can do that as long as you are signed up (can not roll into a different year). Here are the dates needed with links:
