I would like to introduce Johnny, he is 22 year old male umbrella cockatoo. Johnny parents have had him for 22 years, unfortunately between their work schedule and wanting to travel more, they felt it was completely unfair for him to be alone.

They started looking for a new home for him but not just any home. They wanted a place where he would make friends and have other cockatoo buddies to hang out with. They stumbled upon us and felt this was the right fit for him!

He arrived today, he has a doc appt Thursday to be seen and make sure everything is good to go! Once he gets the green light, we will start slowly introducing him to our other cockatoos!

Welcome to the flock Johnny!

I get a lot of questions about how I set up some cages. Here is a great example: this is an outdoor aviary that I got off eBay for $399.00. It has 2 doors; you can make it attached to do one or two. I put a layer of plywood in the middle and braced it, took some old case button trays and screwed them onto the plywood to hang toys for the lower cage. I added a hookbill light to make it brighter for the lower cage and added all the perches, food, water, and toys. I turned a 6x3x7 outdoor aviary into 2 cages. Yes, I know it takes up space, but I can't help but make sure all our birds have big cages. Yes, they are out 90% of the time but Don't you like having a master bedroom?

My one thing i stress on people, the bigger the better. Most of our birds came from having small cages, I do up grades, never down grades 😆🤣

Wow, today was such a busy day! Clean cages, food, and water, and then I got a call that a bird is stuck up in a tree!

We loaded up our 40-foot ladder and headed down to Rainier, Oregon. April Flowers' bird got stuck up in a tree next to Highway 30. Luckily, she had her husband and this guy who knew how to climb a tree. It took a few hours, but we - and I mean this guy who used the ladder and then climbed another 15 feet up this tree - brought Polly the umbrella cockatoo down! I wish we had gotten pictures, but it was getting dark and I didn't realize that the side of Highway 30 is a drop-off from the road. Let's say it wasn't easy getting down or back up; I have a lot of cuts on my arms and hands from acting like Tarzan grabbing vines, while trying not to roll down this mountain side.

Lucky the bird is safe and back in her mom's arms without any injuries! I call that a win for the night!
