IN THE KNOW...

Did you know the Horry County Animal Care Center has a low-cost community clinic?

This clinic offers basic vaccines (including the required rabies vaccine), microchipping, spay/neuter, and TNR programs at low cost.

We also offer at-cost heartworm treatment for heartworm-positive pets ADOPTED from the ACC.

Our clinic also serves ACC pets who are in foster homes, awaiting rescue or adoption.

(NOTE: The ACC clinic is not a primary/ private veterinary clinic. Pet owners are encouraged to find a primary veterinarian to help when their pet is sick/injured in the community.)

Sometimes life happens and you have to rush out of town unexpectedly. Death of a loved one, sudden illness, family matters, work crisis, etc.💔✈️🤒

Tinker Tails Pet Care is here to make those tough times a little easier by providing quality pet care in your home. We know it’s last minute because it’s not planned! Regardless, give us a call or text as soon as you can. If we can’t help you, we will at least point you in the right direction.

Happy Wednesday, folks!

This past week the Tinker Tails team got the opportunity to care for a turtle for the first time and it was the coolest experience! Our newest clients, Otter and Mikey are best friends. 🐢🫶🏻🐶

I got to spend some time with Blu and his buddy, Honey! Honey & Blu had the best time playing, snacking, and snuggled up on the couch. 🍯💙

New season, new besties! Everyone, meet Molly, Bones, and Kitty! I got to spend this weekend with these sweet babies! Senior dogs are truly a blessing. As the shelters are overrun with pets these days, please consider adopting a senior pet. It’s like fast-forwarding to the best part!

I have a new doodle bestie and his name is Blu! Blu loves sleeping in, being in the comfort of his own home, and playing with ALL his toys. Blu even showed me his favorite toys! 🩵🧸🏠

Let’s talk Traditional Boarding versus Pet Sitting!

Traditional Boarding:
• The pet is outside of their comfort zone, without their owner, creating a constant state of stress for the pet
• The pet is able to socialize in communal areas with other pets depending on their temperament
• There is the potential for the pet to contract infectious diseases due to the nature of the business
• The pet can contract secondary issues due to stress that may linger upon arriving home after boarding (urinary tract infections, diarrhea, vomiting, self-harm)


Pet Sitting:
• The pet stays in the comfort of their own home; a staycation!
• The pet stays in their normal feeding and exercise routines
• The pet gets quality one-on-one care and attention
• Multi-pet households get specialized care tailored to each pet’s needs

SEVERE WEATHER: PROPER SHELTER FOR ANIMALS

Community members are reminded to move furry friends into safe, dry shelters ahead of any potential severe weather.

Under Horry County ordinance, all animal owners have a duty to provide proper shelter for their animals, particularly during extreme weather, like tropical storms and hurricanes. Animals also cannot be tethered outside during extreme weather.

Proper shelter will keep animals dry, out of the direct path of wind, and at a reasonable temperature. The shelter should also be windproof, waterproof, and raised from the ground.
