Just pure dedication and love for the street friends! I was fortunate enough to experience and be a part of this wonderful night feeding of ~30 dogs at 11pm at night in the “unsafe” streets of Kollata yesterday by Ilina. No fights amongst them, extremely organized, and took about 2 hours to move from one street to another where these babies eagerly waited for dinner to arrive… chicken rice and milk. My promise to help these feeder programs and my miniscule effort to keep these babies full❤️

Pekham was brought to Shampa on 23rd January from Malda near Kolkata. She was found by the rail tracks by a small girl almost dead.. her 2 front legs chopped from a train accident. Unfortunately, majority of our furry friends come to BhaloBasha with a lot of pain, but we try to help them forget the pain with lots of love. Pekham is walking and eating on her own in just 2 weeks. At BhaloBasha, we promise to give them a life where they will be full, warm, safe, and happy. Pekham walks like a T-rex and I think she is one brave Tyrannosaur

Today’s story is about Biltu! A black and white Indy found on the streets of Bardhaman in Kolkata. Biltu’s spine was broken from an accident, probably months ago but he survived. Biltu pulls himself along every single second of his life. But HAPPILY!!! Yesterday night, a young girl found him dumpster diving to feed himself and called Shampa. Since it was far, we promised to pick Biltu up the next morning if the girl would just keep him for the night but she had big dogs at home and was worried that they would attack Biltu. So she took the train and brought Biltu to us. AND, Biltu got a second chance in life. Little does he know that his days of dumpster diving are over. We wish we could say his days of pulling himself would be over soon, but broken spines are too expensive and when we see a dog is not in pain anymore but has come to terms with his broken spine and MOVING we do not want to take any unnecessary risks. We are building wheelchairs for them so that they can RUN! Biltu is still a puppy and deserves so much more!

At BhaloBasha we promise them a permanent home where they can stay full, warm, safe and happy!

BhaloBasha has many pets who were once cared and loved by their owners but now discarded and forgotten😰… I guess a question that constantly circles in their innocent minds is … “Why did you discard us? We loved you with everything we had…. We are still trying to figure out why you left us. 😰 you loved us once, then what happened that you left us forever?”

This is a story about Bindi, a little puppy whose lower jaw was shattered into two as she was run over by an auto in the streets of Kolkata. Shampa received a phone call at night, informing her of Bindi and rushed to pick her up. She was writhing in pain because her jaw was shattered into 2. Bindi was starving as she had not had food probably in the last few days as she could not eat. Shampa brought her home and tried to feed her milk with a syringe. Early next morning Shampa took her to the vet, and we were informed that she needed surgery, but since her jaw was infected in the last few days due to neglect, she had to be put on antibiotics immediately. The vet also mentioned that it was a difficult surgery with little hope of success. Bindi was hungry and had to eat, so Shampa continued feeding her milk using a syringe and made tiny balls of mashed rice. She handfed her over the next two days. Bindi’s surgery had to be postponed while her infection was being treated.
I have a question…We call ourselves humans? Are we? It does not really bother us when we run over a puppy while driving. It does not bother us when we see a puppy in pain lying on the road for 3 days. What if it was our own child? Would we do the same? If Bindi was taken to the vet right away, she probably would not be suffering as much as she is doing today.
But, thankfully, for people like Shampa these dogs have a second chance at life. Bindi will be taken for her surgery in a few days. Bindi is still a little puppy and has a full life in front of her. She should be running around playing instead of being in pain, unable to eat. Bindi is slowly healing and eating herself today.
We, at BhaloBasha promise to give these voiceless animals a permanent home, a safe haven where they can stay full, warm, safe and happy!

BhaloBasha: A Home Built on Love
BhaloBasha means Love—a name that embodies everything we stand for. The two syllables, Bhalo (Good) and Basha (Home), reflect our mission: to create a safe haven where gentle souls and wagging tails find love, care, and a place to call home.

Today, with Shampa Mukherjee , BhaloBasha is on a mission to rescue Kolkata’s most vulnerable street dogs—many of whom are disabled, abandoned, or victims of cruelty and accidents. These dogs have endured unimaginable suffering, but at BhaloBasha, we offer them a second chance—a life filled with safety, compassion, and the promise of a forever home.

Since our humble beginning, we have rescued over 50 dogs in our small, overcrowded makeshift shelter. But the need is greater than ever. That’s why we are building a permanent sanctuary—a true BhaloBasha where these forgotten souls will finally have the safe, loving home they deserve.

Most of these dogs are not the picture-perfect pets people want. They are sick, injured, disabled, and unwanted Indies—the ones no one looks at twice. But we do. And we fight for them every day. We provide food, medical care, rehabilitation, and most importantly, love…. Bhalobasha!

This lifesaving mission is only possible with your support. Will you help us build a Forever Home for them?

🙏 Donate today. Be their hero. Give them the love they’ve never known. Call us if you see any fur baby in need of being rescued.
