Perineal hernias don’t resolve on their own, and symptoms typically worsen over time.

Surgery strengthens the pelvic area, relocates displaced organs, and protects dogs from life-threatening complications.

Whether your dog has been newly diagnosed or you’re exploring treatment options, we’re here to support you with clarity, compassion, and skilled surgical care.

Perineal hernias are most common in senior, unneutered male dogs and can progress over time, causing discomfort and difficulty passing stool or urine.

Surgical correction restores anatomy, relieves pressure, and prevents serious complications.

If you’ve noticed straining, swelling near the a**s, or changes in bathroom habits, we’re here to help evaluate and guide you through the following steps.

🩺 Help your pet have a smooth, stress-free procedure by following your vet’s fasting instructions, avoiding food after the set time, and only allowing water until a few hours before surgery. Bring along any medications or medical records your vet requests, and prepare a quiet, comfortable space at home for recovery. On the day of surgery, keep your pet calm and secure during drop-off and pickup—a little preparation goes a long way toward ensuring their safety, comfort, and a smooth recovery. 🐾

If you notice a new lump or bump on your pet, it’s always a good idea to have it checked — especially if it’s growing quickly, feels firm, changes color, or causes discomfort. 🩺

While many growths are harmless, others may require surgical removal to maintain your pet's health and comfort. Early evaluation helps your vet determine the best next steps and gives you peace of mind. ❤️

MERRY AND BRIGHT. Holiday movies hit different when vet med gets a little spotlight. I recently had the joy of attending the premiere of “Merv”, now streaming on Prime Video, the night was outstanding. If you are looking for a heartwarming movie to watch this holiday this is the one.

Big shoutout to the Assisi Loop by Zomedica ) for keeping our patients comfy and cared for, on and off screen, and to Nicole Westfall () for the invite and all the magic. Watching a story that’s endearing, fun, touching, and yes—features a super cute dog and a splash of veterinary medicine—felt like the perfect holiday blend.

Grateful I got to share the night with behavior king Chris Pachel and derm expert Ashley Bourgeois .
Here’s to more stories where animals, medicine, and heart all share the frame.
