Rick knows a few things about grief.

The Air Force veteran shared the nation’s collective sorrow in the wake of the September 11th terror attacks. His response was to enlist in the Air Force, where he served for nearly two decades.

But after experiencing a more personal loss, Rick turned to our partners LifeLine Animal Project and Fulton County Animal Services for not one, but two Pittie mixes who would help ease his grief:

Our support for veterans and Gold Star spouses strengthens military families, too.

Families bond around the shared responsibility of caring for a rescued pet.

Children learn important lessons of caring and compassion. And pets lessen the anxiety and hopelessness that kids in active duty households experience far more than their civilian counterparts.

Tyler serves in the Army and recently welcomed 8+ year-old Dominique—aka Dom—into his young family. They met this older fella through Licking County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center in Ohio and we already have a fabulous post-adoption update:

"Dom is doing extremely well fitting in with our other fur babies. He absolutely loves car rides and will argue with me if I tell him he can’t go to pick up his sister from school.

He loves to play, but mostly just wants to have belly rubs and cuddle time with his new family. Thank you again for all you do." ❤️

It's been just over 10 years that Teresa and Ollie became an inseparable team. The Coast Guard veteran met her pint-sized pup through our partners Humane Society of Tampa Bay and never looked back.

But recently Ollie crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His passing was unexpected and swift:

"My Ollie passed way suddenly. I am heartbroken. I’m feeling the loneliness I haven’t felt since he came to live with me. Wanted to let you know that the pet this organization provided to me brought me much joy and happiness for his entire stay with me."

Teresa is a woman of deep faith, even taking Ollie with her to church every Sunday. He was a favorite of the congregation's children, who would always ask Teresa if they could play with Ollie. Naturally, he always obliged.

We're comforted to know that Teresa is channeling her grief by searching for another four-legged soul to love. In the meantime, please share your prayers to help heal her broken heart. 💔 🐾
