The thing about this community is - well, there are a lot of awesome things about this community - it is that even though this year we are under the worst attack of our 15-year history...people come out by the dozens to volunteer at our little farm on Saturday morning when they have 100 other things they need to do too. To help, support, join together, and be a FAMILY. The NEW CITY FARM and the NEW CITY SCHOOL are my extended family in Long Beach, and I am so proud of who we are and what we do together. And why some people want to shut us down is truly perplexing me today.

Please bring your support letters for the New City Farm and The New City School to the office today or tomorrow - the hearing for our 5-year renewal is at 1515 Hughes Way in Long Beach [LBUSD headquarters] Tuesday, November 18 at 5:00pm. I will be posting some of the letters here and on our website - this one from national education reform leader Deb Meier just made me feel so proud of all of use - in it she mentions the Farm!

I am so proud of our community. Honestly, I hope that the LBUSD is keeping days like this in mind as they consider our charter renewal petition on Tuesday - this is a kind of learning and community-building that cannot be tested. And it takes the hard work, passion, and caring of many to pull it off. A few people, however, did some extra lifting - THANK YOU to Betty Ortiz, Derek Piper, and Arselia Martínez for the planning & organization that went into our family farm day + artesanía event - such a terrific success!!

Hello Everyone! Stop by this Saturday, November the 15th for Family Farm Day at the New City Farm. Besides the usual farm day activities, we will be collecting art supplies like paint brushes and tempera paints to use in preparation of Peace and Human Rights Night. There will also be lots of arts and crafts activities for the kids. We will be there from 9am-12pm. See you there!

Estaremos colectando donaciones de artículos para el arte, como brochas, pinturas y otros artículos que usaremos en preparación para la Noche de Paz y Derechos Humanos.
