UPDATE FROM WAGS: They really need kitten fosters. They will also reassess space tomorrow to determine if they can take in any more dogs. They already have 500 pets in their custody, between fosters and onsite! They also have an Amazon wishlist set up.

WAGS Pet Adoption Emergency Update for Westminster and Stanton

Since the start of this emergency, WAGS Pet Adoption has taken in about 90 animals. Some have already been reunited with their pet parents, and others have continued to come in as we respond to the needs of our community. We are doing our best to say yes when we can and still keep open spaces for lost/stray pets that need the animal shelter services.

We still have WAGS dogs safely in foster care, and we are so grateful to every foster parent helping make space for more animals in need. We are also still in urgent need of kitten fosters. We currently have 40+ kittens who need foster homes, and every foster placement helps free up space so we can continue helping other animals.

The pets who have been at WAGS over the past day are doing well. The shelter has been calm, and we’ve limited foot traffic around them to help keep everyone safe, comfortable, and as stress-free as possible.

This morning, an amazing group of volunteers came in to help care for the animals, clean, and get the shelter back to a more normal state by 1:00 PM. We are a small team doing our best to keep up with texts, phone calls, in-person needs, social media messages, and all of the pets coming and going during this emergency.

At this time, we have over 500 animals in our custody with 230 of them on property and the 270 in foster care, and we are deeply thankful for the fosters who have already stepped up, especially for the kittens.

If you have reached out and we haven’t gotten back to you right away, thank you for your patience and understanding. Everyone on staff is working as quickly and carefully as we can every minute of the day.

We do have an Amazon Wish List and PayPal link, and we’ll share those in the comments.

Tomorrow we will assess the situation again and determine where we stand depending on how this emergency continues. If we have room to take in more pets, we will post an update in the morning. If we are able to open for a few hours of kitten adoptions, we will share that too.

Thank you, Westminster and Stanton, for your kindness, patience, and support.

Marla is a joyful, three-year-old bulldog who has spent two years in a rescue shelter. She is a burst of pure happiness with a wrinkled face and a constantly wiggly tail.

Marla loves water! The moment a volunteer grabs the garden hose, Marla drops into a playful bow, completely focused on the fun ahead.

She zooms directly through the cool spray, snapping at droplets and splashing in puddles with a huge, toothy grin.

Beyond her water-loving antics, Marla is incredibly social and sweet. She is friendly with dogs and kids.

This fun-loving girl is completely ready to bring her endless affection to a forever family. Marla is located in Long Beach, California. For more information on Marla, contact us at (310) 621-1417.
