Saving animals thru community education, assisting local rescues by combining efforts, implementing T We are able to continue thru the generosity of others.
HCPA was originally geared to helping other local rescues in getting organized, looking for grants & supplies, etc. For several years, we had a full army of fosters and were able to transfer hundreds of dogs/puppies to other states. HCPA has always been flexible with the direction of our programs. We have limited our intakes this year and are focusing on getting our current animals adopted as they
have been here too long and deserve their own families. Unfortunately, this year, our cat program has been closed and we are no longer in Petco in Greenville. We may occasionally have a cat or kitten available for adoption and do hope this program can be started again at some point in the future. Like all rescues, we are always short on volunteers & fosters and our finances are always a struggle. August 2021

Good Morning! Life couldn't be any busier between family, work and of course, the daily challenges of rescue!! But here I am, trying to keep it all together!! 😃 Thank you that keep in touch and continue your support, even when this page gets quiet for a time. I'm still trying to get Rains County to pay for the boarding and vet bills from the seizure of the animals from Point and will be contacting their district attorney next. I still can't believe they shafted me after I stepped up to help. Fingers crossed that they will agree to pay, and soon.
So what's next? I'll be posting the dogs and cats ready to be adopted, so please share those or consider adopting yourself! There will be fundraisers in the near future and if you would like to raise money in some way (bake sale, car wash, etc), please do! The rescue only survives on the $50 to $350 that comes in regularly each month. With better weather now, there is more opportunities to raise the much needed funds!!
Keep up the good work for being the voice for the voiceless! They need all of us!!

How cool is this? (No pun intended! Lol) Rescue dogs competing in this famous race!

I've struggled about making this post, but I really don't have any options but to just come out and say it. I took in those dogs, cats and a donkey on November 11, 2024 after being contacted by the Rains County Sheriff's Dept who needed a place to house these animals so they could seize them from a bad situation. I was told all vet bills would be reimbursed and to charge a boarding fee. I kept it to a minimum, and between the 3 dogs that went to the vet and boarding for 10 days, the total was a little over $2000. Invoices were turned in the day of court after HCPA was awarded custody of all said animals. Fast forward to today, February 14, 2025, and no money has been received to pay the vet bill or any boarding fees. I've talked directly to the sheriff recently as I continue to follow up on when this money would be received and am now being told it won't be paid by Rains County as I'll have to wait until restitution is paid to the courts by the previous owner. WHAT?!! They haven't even taken him to court yet, and I doubt he'll pay a penny of it. This was not what I was told originally by any means! It's no wonder rescues won't step up and help if this is how it is going to be handled!
I'll continue to press this issue, but in the meantime, I have a $1200 vet bill that is way over due and since I've not been paid for any boarding, I can't afford to get these dogs vetted and ready for adoption. I'm in quite a mess because of all of this.
My priority is to get the vet paid. If you can help at all, below are ways to donate to HCPA or directly to the vet's office. I still can't believe this is how this has played out!
WHAT IS THAT?! It's a Henry Bear!! This senior hairy boy got a second chance on life when Dr. Foster asked if HCPA could take him in. He had been brought in to be euthanized by the adult children of his owner, who could no longer care for him. He had fleas and resulting skin conditions and walked funny. Guess what? No more fleas, no skin issues, but yeah, he still walks funny! He has one bad eye and a not so good second eye, but he doesn't care, and neither should you! 🤣😂 Such a sweet boy... good with other dogs, likes cats, crates, and seems totally housebroken. Who's up to the challenge to show love to this adorable guy? HE LOVES LIFE!!

Due to some personal issues that have come up, I desperately need a few dogs to be adopted or at least into foster for a time. Pictured are a few that are available. I'll also put a link in the comments to apply to be a foster. HCPA can provide everything needed if you need help with that. There is no set length of time to foster. Any amount is going to help. Let me know if you have any interest or questions!

A huge shout out to Evelyn Kaler for her donation today of shavings and food! It really helped out getting these fur babies warm with the temps dropping like they did! The others had plenty of straw for bedding.

Mia... may she forever remind us that neglect IS abuse, too. Watch over us, precious little one, as we continue to be the voice of the voiceless. ❤️ 💙 💜 💗

Losing Mia was definitely unexpected and sudden so I've needed a few days to process the loss. I want to thank everyone who reached out with kind words of sympathy and care. Unfortunately, losses come with rescue more than with the standard pet owner. That doesn't mean it makes it any easier. While trying to save Mia, the vet bills shot up to about $5,000. I'm going to need help to get those bills paid, yet hate to, right here at Christmas time, but here I am asking. It's also the last month of the year, so not too late to make a year-end donation and claim it on your income taxes as HCPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Any amount always helps and small donations add up to a bigger total donation which end up covering these expenses. I ALWAYS APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S HELP!!!
Peanut is the other chi that was in the seizure group (she had the super long nails and skin issues). She likes her new hoodie when it's time to go outside. She's ready to be spayed and then adopted. If anyone would like to sponsor or contribute to her surgery, holler now so we can get this sweetie into a loving and safe home! She is quiet and basically house broken. She is great with other dogs of all sizes as well as cats. Payments can be made directly to Commerce Veterinary Clinic.

Everybody got treats today and the 4 new boys got bones to chew on. W***y ran right into his house with his! He wasn't messing around! 😆 🤣 😂

HCPA was originally geared to helping other local rescues in getting organized, looking for grants & supplies, etc and even tho we still make ourselves available to other rescues by helping any way we can, we are now a full fledged foster based rescue. We can have over 100 animals in our program at any time. Like all rescues, we are always short on volunteers & fosters and our finances are always a struggle. We are only able to continue thru the generosity of others as we are soley funded thru donations.
Founded in 2015, HCPA has gone through and continues to go through the struggles of growing pains. Adding good, hard working and dedicated volunteers to our programs is always ongoing and comes with the territory. With the addition of the new dog building and plans to complete a cat building in the very near future, we hope that will help take the burden off of the individual volunteers that want to help with the animals yet can not foster them at their own homes. Our Cat Care Team that provides the care of the adoptable cats houses at Petco in Greenville has been a strong group and is the backbone of our cat program. We hope to get such a team for the dogs in place soon.
HCPA loves being able to help but like any other rescue, we must set our limits on how many animals we can take in and care for properly. How many that is depends on how much housing and how much financial support we have. One area of support that we do not have is regular monthly contributors, ie, those that send in a set amount each month. Those funds are the only ones we know are coming in that we can count on. If you have not considered contributing in this way, talk to us and we can help you get that set up directly from your own bank account.
