5 Habits That Are Secretly Cluttering Your Home 🏡🚫

Clutter doesn’t just happen—it’s usually the result of small habits that pile up over time (literally). If you’re guilty of any of these, don’t worry—you’re not alone! 👀

1️⃣ Buying Things You Don’t Need – Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean it belongs in your home. If you weren’t looking for it before you saw the discount, you probably don’t need it. 🛍️🚫

2️⃣ Keeping “Just in Case” Items – If you haven’t used it in years, that “just in case” moment is probably never coming. Let it go. 🙌

3️⃣ Not Having a Decluttering Routine – Clutter builds up when there’s no system in place. A quick 10-minute daily reset can save you from drowning in stuff. ⏳✨

4️⃣ Holding Onto Gifts Out of Guilt – Keeping something just because it was a gift? Your home is not a storage unit for other people’s generosity. It’s okay to appreciate the thought and still say goodbye. 🎁💔

5️⃣ Letting Paper Pile Up – Junk mail, old receipts, kids’ schoolwork from three years ago… it all adds up. Make it a habit to toss, shred, or digitize before it takes over. 📄🚮

Which of these habits do you need to break? Drop a ✋ in the comments if you’re guilty of at least one!

Let’s also talk about something that might be sitting heavy on your chest this season—Easter basket guilt.

You scroll Instagram and see these $300+ baskets stuffed with brand-name clothes, electronics, matching swimsuits, monogrammed everything… and you start to wonder if you’re not doing enough.

Here’s the truth:
You don’t owe your kids a curated, color-coded basket that looks like it came out of a boutique ad.
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to make the day special.
You don’t have to “keep up” with moms who’ve turned Easter into a second Christmas.

Your love isn’t measured in how many things you give.
It’s in the giggles during the egg hunt.
It’s in the cozy story time with new bunny jammies and a book.
It’s in the way you remembered their favorite snack or tucked a silly note inside their basket.

You are allowed to keep it simple.

Your kid doesn’t need more stuff—they need you.
Your time. Your attention. Your calm. Your laughter.
Not a $1,000 basket filled with stuff they’ll forget about by next Tuesday.

So if you’re doing a couple of thoughtful items, skipping the overwhelm, and protecting your peace this Easter?
You’re not “less than.”

You’re actually ahead of the game.

Less stuff. More magic. That’s the real goal. 💛

Meet Dawn! Owner of

After spending close to 30 years in corporate America—primarily in the financial services sector—Dawn realized it was time for a change. During COVID, she sought a way to channel her anxiety into something positive, which led to the creation of Declutterize with Dawn.
Through her own journey, Dawn discovered the power of letting go—eliminating items that no longer served a purpose and focusing on what truly added value to her life.
This process transformed her home into a calmer, less stressful environment, and she knew she wanted to help others experience the same relief. After running her business part-time for two years, she took a leap of faith and left her traditional 9-to-5 in February 2023 to pursue her passion full-time.Dawn and her husband have lived in Londonderry NH for 10 years.

She thrives in the summer months, spending time at the beach, boating, and soaking up every last bit of sunshine! During the winter you can find her cozied up by the fire dreaming of warmer weather. She also enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, yoga, and—of course—organizing!

Ever start decluttering, only to feel like you’re making more of a mess?

You’re not alone! I see it all the time—one minute, you’re motivated, and 30 minutes later, you’re staring at a bigger disaster than when you started.

So, let’s talk about how to actually declutter—without the overwhelm. Most people think they need more storage (another bookshelf, more bins, bigger cabinets), but the real secret is much simpler: you need less stuff

How you can start today:
✅ Step 1: Identify the Problem: Before you start tossing things into donation bins, take a step back. Ask yourself: “Do I really NEED all of this?”
✅ Step 2: Simplify the Process: Trying to declutter your entire house in a day is crazy talk! Your home didn’t get cluttered overnight, so don’t expect to declutter it overnight either. Instead, focus on one small area.

For example, if you’re tackling the kitchen, start with the fridge:
🕒 Set a 10-minute timer
🥫 Pull everything out & toss expired items
🧽 Wipe down the shelves
🍎 Put everything back into zones (dairy, condiments, veggies, etc.)

From there, move on to a cabinet or the dreaded junk drawer and repeat the process throughout your home

✅ Step 3: Stick with It! Decluttering isn’t a one-and-done deal—it’s a habit. Set a reminder, schedule regular check-ins, or find an accountability partner (like me!).

I promise, once you start, you’ll feel lighter, more in control, and actually enjoy your space again.

Fast fashion, over-consumerism , and constantly shifting trends have us in a never-ending cycle of buying.

One minute it’s Stanley Cups. The next, it’s Owala. Meanwhile, I’m over here still sipping from my trusty Yeti like, “How gauche!” 😂

But seriously, why do we feel the pressure to keep up? Is it human nature to want to fit in, or is society convincing us we’re missing out if we don’t jump on every new trend?

I’m curious—what’s your least favorite trend right now? Let me know in the comments!”

Every single item we own comes with a price—and I’m not just talking about dollars💸

Think about it:
• You’ll spend time fixing it.
• You’ll waste energy looking for it.
• You’ll fight with your kids over it.
• You might even rack up interest on your credit card for it.

And let’s not forget the mental exhaustion that comes with managing it all.
So let me ask: Do you really need that new “must-have” item, or is it just going to end up as clutter collecting dust?

💬 What’s something you’ve bought recently that you actually regret? Let’s chat about it in the comments!

“Do we truly want all the things we buy? Or are we just collecting them because everyone else is? 💭
When I worked with a client who had lost everything in a house fire, they told me something that stuck with me: “When you lose it all, you realize what really matters.”

It made me stop and think about the WHY behind our shopping habits. Are we buying things because they serve a real purpose in our lives? Or are we just trying to keep up with the latest trends? (Hello, Stanley Cups, Owala bottles, and everything in between!) 🤦‍♀️

What’s the trend you regret jumping on? Or the one you flat-out refuse to follow? Let me know in the comments!👇
