🍋 What a sweet day! Thank you to everyone who stopped by Lomita Feed for Lemonade Day and supported these incredible young entrepreneurs. 💛

This year’s lemonade booth served up refreshing lemonade and snacks while donating 10% of proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping bring smiles to children facing critical illnesses.

It was so much fun seeing our community come together, support local kids, and enjoy a beautiful day at the store. We can’t wait to do it again next year! 🍋☀️

☀️🐔 HOT WEATHER CHECK-IN FOR THE FLOCK 🐔☀️

When the temps climb, our chickens, ducks, quail, and other feathered friends need a little extra help staying cool! Poultry don’t sweat like we do, so overheating can happen quickly—especially in coops with limited airflow.

A few easy ways to keep your birds comfortable during a heat wave:
• Keep plenty of fresh, cool water available all day. Add extra waterers so nobody has to compete for a drink!• Toss in a few ice cubes, frozen water bottles, or a frozen bowl of treats to help cool down their drinking water.• Make sure they have lots of shade—trees, shade cloth, tarps, patio umbrellas, and even a pop-up canopy can make a huge difference.• Improve airflow in the coop with open windows, vents, fans placed safely out of reach, and plenty of room to spread out.• Offer hydrating snacks like chilled watermelon, cucumber, berries, leafy greens, or frozen peas.• Keep the coop bedding dry and clean. Damp, stuffy bedding plus heat is not the vibe.• A shallow pan of cool water can be a huge hit for ducks, while chickens may enjoy standing near a lightly misted area or cool damp ground.• Watch for signs of heat stress: panting, wings held away from the body, lethargy, pale combs, stumbling, or birds isolating themselves.

The goal is simple: shade, water, airflow, and a few cold snacks for the tiny dinosaurs. 🦖💛
Stay cool out there, feathered friends! What’s your flock’s favorite hot-weather treat?

A South Bay guardian under the evening sky. 🦉✨

Owls are some of the best natural pest control you can have around your home, ranch, or backyard flock. A single owl family can help keep rodent populations in check by hunting mice, rats, gophers, and other small pests that can contaminate feed, damage property, and spread disease.

They’re also a sign of a healthy local ecosystem. Here in the South Bay, we’re lucky to share our neighborhoods with these incredible birds. If you’re keeping chickens, ducks, or other poultry, welcoming owls (while ensuring your birds are safely tucked into a secure coop at night) can be one of the best ways to naturally reduce unwanted vermin.

This beautiful owl even posed with Venus, right here at Lomita Feed! A reminder that some of the best moments in nature happen when we simply look up.

Have you spotted an owl in your neighborhood lately? We’d love to see your photos! 🌙

This message truly made our day. For 107 years, Lomita Feed has been a place where families can learn, ask questions, meet animals, and share a little piece of South Bay life together. Thank you for visiting, for sharing this experience with us, and for raising such a thoughtful young man. 🤍
