They say it takes a village, and we really need our village right now to help a special dog find his people. Romeo came to us in July of 2024, and waited for almost a year with no adoption interest. He became immensely stressed here in the shelter, so we sent him to a foster home in June of 2025 where he has absolutely thrived. His foster mom has renamed him Havarti, "Harvey" for short because he's "always cheesin'!" Though he is thriving outside of the shelter, this boy has some reservations with new men. If he is forced to interact and accept pets from strange new men before he is ready, he will snap to communicate his boundaries. We love that he is so communicative about his needs, but that means he needs a special home that will work with him to feel safe and comfortable around new men. Here is what his foster mom says about him:
“He is incredibly loving, loyal, and happiest when he’s close to his people. He absolutely loves having another dog around and would do best in a home with a playful canine companion. He loves walks, cuddles, sleeping in bed with you, and greeting you at the door with his favorite toy (or occasionally a shoe, just to show it off, never to chew it lol). He is fully house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands including come, sit, shake, and lay down. He gets very excited when he sees other dogs on walks and can be vocal because he wants to play so badly. He can also be a little unsure of some men during on-leash greetings, but once comfortable- especially off leash- he’s a completely loving, goofy boy. At the end of the day, he’s just a dog who wants love, companionship, and to be part of the home.”
Can you help us spread the word about this special boy? Share this post to friends, family, and groups on social media! He’s waited long enough- let’s get this boy a home!!
