The Lockhart Animal Shelter will be temporarily closed today from 12PM–3PM for mandatory staff training. This training helps ensure our team continues providing the best possible care for the animals at our facility. 🐾

We will reopen following normal hours after training concludes. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Every rescue dog has a story — and every adoption, foster, volunteer, donation, and share helps give them the second chance they deserve. From scared strays to beloved family members, these dogs remind us every day just how life-changing compassion can be.

At the shelter, we see firsthand how amazing rescue dogs truly are. Some need time, some need patience, and all they really want is love. 🐶

📊 Lockhart Animal Shelter – April 2026 Monthly Status Update

CURRENT ANIMAL POPULATION (As of May 20, 2026):
🐶 Dogs: 60
🐱 Cats: 26

(Shelter capacity: 50 dog kennels & 18 cat kennels)

From April 1–30, the Lockhart Animal Shelter took in a total of 159 cats and dogs. During this same period, 74 animals found forever homes through adoption, pet reclaim, or transfers to our partner rescues. 🏡✨

Like many shelters across Texas, we are currently facing limited kennel space. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to save as many lives as possible, but we cannot do it alone. 💛

To help manage capacity and continue saving lives, we are operating in managed intake status. This ensures we can safely and effectively care for the animals already in our facility while helping more pets find homes.

With the community’s support, we can make a meaningful difference for the pets who need us most. 🐾

🚨 Short-Term Fosters Needed 🚨

We are urgently looking for short-term fosters to help free up kennel space at the shelter. Every dog currently needing foster placement already has somewhere lined up to go — we just need temporary homes to help bridge the gap and open kennels for new dogs in need. 🐾

By fostering short-term, you are directly helping us save more lives and create space for incoming animals that have nowhere else to go.

The shelter can provide supplies and food while the dogs are in foster. Even fostering for a few days can make a huge difference.
