Our recent trip has been heavy in a lot of ways—but also really meaningful. 🥹

We didn’t just come through this area to “rescue.” We came to connect with people, sit in the reality of what they’re dealing with, and try to help where we could in the moment for those who we’re accepting. And honestly, there’s ALOT of need here.

We were able to give preventative care to several dogs who desperately needed it. Dogs living in flea-infested, uncomfortable conditions—not because anyone doesn’t love them, but because they simply don’t have the means to do better right now. A huge thank you to Alburnett Veterinary Service for a recent donation of preventatives that made that possible. We truly couldn’t have done it without that support.

There’s a stray problem here, yes. BUT there are also a lot of owned animals just hanging on the edge. And those are the ones that stick with you. The ones who have someone, but their someone is struggling too.💔

We know it’s easy to judge situations like this from the outside and sometimes we’re guilty of that too because of course we’re always wanting more, for the animals sake. But standing in it, talking to people face to face, you can see that many of them do care deeply. They just don’t have the resources, and their animals end up paying the price for that gap.

If we can step in early—before surrender, before abandonment, before things get worse and keep an animal in its home safely with it’s family, that matters just as much as any transport we do.

We’re going to keep trying to help this area as long as we have the ability to do so. Food. Preventatives. Basic care. The things that can mean the difference between a dog staying with their family or ending up on the streets.

If you feel moved to help, donations toward this effort go directly to the animals who need it most right now.

Update on the three puppies wandering near the burned down home…

We were able to get the homeowner next door to come to the answer yesterday. They confirmed the puppies are product of their dogs, but they do not want them. They’ve been trying to rehome them without any success.

This is a very similar situation to the story we shared yesterday - dogs living in rough conditions, dealing with fleas, skin sores, and general neglect, likely due to lack of resources or funds. We were able to give the adults flea & tick preventative since they were clearly uncomfortable and infested.

Right now our priority is stopping the cycle and making sure these puppies don’t end up in an even worse situation. We have secured fosters for the puppies and will remain in contact with the family about the other dogs.

They did agree to let us help with getting the adult dogs spayed and neutered so this doesn’t continue, but unfortunately the cost will fall on us. With 3 adult dogs at the home, this will be approximately $600+ at the local vet nearby (easiest for them to transport to)

If you’d like to help sponsor one of these dogs spay or neuter please comment below, we’d be do grateful!! ❤️

George Update, our trap remains empty…🥺

Unfortunately, despite several days of searching, we still have not personally seen George. We’ve received a few sightings, but by the time we’re able to get to those locations, he’s already moved on.

Trapping him has been difficult because we need to know where he is in real time, and there are many stray and free-roaming dogs in the area. We did set a trap where he normally hangs out, but caught a cat instead.

We’re still hopeful, but if we’re being realistic, we’re not feeling very confident we’ll see him before we leave in the morning. The woman who feeds him will continue leaving food out, and we’re looking into leaving a trap behind so local help can keep trying.

We’re disappointed, but we haven’t given up on George. If the opportunity comes to catch him, we’ll be ready.

We recently met Foxy. She does have a person who cares about her very much. He is living with very limited resources and inherited several dogs after they were abandoned on his property. Despite his circumstances, he has been doing his best to care for them.

Foxy is unfortunately already in the early stages of pregnancy, and the father is a much larger dog. Because of the size difference, we’re concerned about potential complications and offered to take her into rescue so she can receive the veterinary care she needs. Her owner agreed that this would be the best option for her.

We’re also working with him to help get his remaining dogs spayed and neutered so this situation doesn’t continue. We provided food and preventatives for his other dogs and exchanged contact information so we can help arrange their vet care moving forward.

If you’d like to help, donations toward spay/neuter costs, veterinary care, dog food, and supplies are greatly appreciated. Every dollar helps both Foxy and the dogs that will be staying with their owner.

‼️URGENT FOSTERS NEEDED FOR FIRE VICTIMS 💔

While in Hugo we stumbled upon a burned down home, we stopped briefly to chat with the lady on the property and a couple dogs came out of the house.
This lady was a friend of the home owner, so we left our information with her to relay to her friend that we could help in anyway needed.

Within no more than 15 minutes of leaving, the woman called us and told us the home caught fire a few days ago, they lost one dog in the fire and have nowhere for these two to go. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, please know we are not trying to take anyone’s dogs. We offered other forms of assistance, but the owner has made the difficult decision to surrender them because she simply has no way to keep them safe right now.

She is currently staying in a motel and receiving assistance for her own basic needs, but unfortunately the dogs cannot stay with her. They have been going in and out of the road and trying to get back into the burned home. 🥺

We need foster homes ASAP if we’re going to help these dogs. If we can secure fosters, we can get them proper paperwork and veterinary care first thing Monday morning!!

There are also three small puppies hanging around the property. We have been told they may belong to a neighbor, but they are frequently left outside. We are working to make contact and determine whether they need help as well.

This is one of those situations where a community can truly make a difference. If you can foster, even temporarily, please reach out IMMEDIATELY. Sharing this post helps tremendously too.

‼️Foster Needed IMMEDIATELY for Puppy‼️

This sweet little girl was found dumped in a small rural Oklahoma town with very few resources. She’s nothing but skin and bones, but despite everything she’s been through, she’s incredibly sweet.

We couldn’t leave her behind, so we stepped in but now she needs the next piece of her journey: a foster home in Iowa.

The good news is we have a veterinary appointment already scheduled for her first thing Monday morning. If and only if we can find a foster, she could make transport back with us.

Can you open your home and give this baby a safe place to land? Fostering saves lives, and for this little girl, it could mean everything!!

📍 Foster needs to step up ASAP
🐾 Rescue support, supplies and vet care provided

‼️URGENT - Snake bite victims 🐍

What started as a litter of 6 puppies is now only 3. 💔
These babies are living outside in rural Oklahoma where resources are almost nonexistent. The people caring for them are trying their best but they didn’t ask for puppies to be dumped on them.

The day after they reached out to us for help, two of the puppies succumbed to snake bites, and the following morning a third. There are now just three left and we are desperate to get them to safety before they have the same fate.

They need a ticket out of Oklahoma, and we can’t do that without foster offers. We are getting them health certificates today in hopes that people step up over the weekend before we head back to Iowa on Monday!! Let’s make that happen! 🙏🙏

Yes, they’re black puppies and likely to be overlooked, but they are sweet babies who deserve the chance to survive and be loved. 🖤

Please foster, share, or tag someone who can help. Apply to foster ⬇️

🚐💨 Happy Friday!! It’s $5 Friday! 👋👋

Rescue doesn’t stop just because gas prices are high. Every transport run, vet trip, supply pickup, and freedom ride adds up fast — and we couldn’t do it without our village.

If you’ve ever wanted to help but could only spare a few bucks, today’s your day. Just $5 from a handful of people adds up fast. You can help us get dogs to safety, cover transport expenses, and keep us moving forward for the ones who need us most.

Skip one coffee, send a little love, and help us keep our wheels turning for the dogs this weekend! 🐾❤️
