💔 WE NEED A UNICORN FOR POPCORN. AND I MEAN THAT LITERALLY. 💔
Brent picked Popcorn up from the shelter on Friday. She is in a temp foster. Yet needs a home of her own.
And when he brought her out, you could see it.
She was defeated.
This wasn’t the happy, goofy Popcorn we knew.
This dog looked broken.
She is obviously underweight. She has been through an unbelievable amount of stress. And honestly, we’re furious and heartbroken because none of this had to happen.
Popcorn was originally found in Texas hanging from a fence by her LEFT FOOT.
Think about that for a second.
She survived that.
She went through therapy in Texas.
She made her way to Colorado.
And when she was adopted, we didn’t just hand her over and say, “Good luck.”
We gave her every tool possible to succeed.
The rescue paid her medical bills.
Brant and the rescue paid for her medications.
She had a FREE professional training program specifically designed to help her with her separation anxiety.
The training was there.
The support was there.
The resources were there.
The rescue was there. Brent was there.
And yet the training was refused.
Her vaccines weren’t kept current.
The tools we provided weren’t utilized.
And this dog who had already survived so much ended up in a shelter.
Popcorn deserved better.
She deserved someone who was willing to put in the work.
Instead, she lost approximately 9 pounds, and we have had to watch this poor girl go through yet another traumatic experience.
And now we’re trying to pick up the pieces.
The heartbreaking part?
Popcorn is not a bad dog.
She isn’t aggressive.
She isn’t destructive because she’s “bad.”
She doesn’t hate other animals.
She doesn’t hate people.
She doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
She simply doesn’t want to be left alone.
That’s it.
Her separation anxiety is severe, and because of that, she needs a very special person.
We’re not going to lie and pretend this is easy.
For approximately 30 days, her training requires someone who can be home with her and work through the program that has already been provided for her FREE.
We know.
That’s a HUGE ask.
That’s why we’re calling this person a UNICORN. 🦄
Maybe you’re retired.
Maybe you work from home.
Maybe you own your own business.
Maybe you work somewhere that allows dogs.
Take Popcorn to work with you.
She would make an incredible shop dog.
An incredible office dog.
An incredible coworker.
As long as she’s next to her person, she is happy.
And for the times you absolutely have to leave, we’ve already researched doggy daycare options that can help.
We aren’t asking someone to figure this out alone.
We’re asking someone to give her a chance.
Because Popcorn has already had people fail her.
She doesn’t need another person who says they love her and then doesn’t follow through.
She needs someone who understands that loving a dog sometimes means doing the hard things.
It means patience.
It means consistency.
It means rearranging your life for a little while.
It means celebrating the tiny victories.
It means reminding a traumatized dog, over and over again:
“I’m coming back. You’re safe. I won’t abandon you.”
Because somewhere along the way, Popcorn learned that when her person leaves, she gets abandoned.
And after everything she’s been through, can you blame her?
We can only imagine what she experienced hanging from that fence in Texas.
We can only imagine the pain.
The fear.
The therapy.
The journey to Colorado.
And then being placed with people who supposedly loved her, only to have the resources provided to help her left unused.
Then she ended up in a shelter.
Now she’s standing there wondering what happened to her life.
💔 We need to change that.
Popcorn is:
❤️ DOG FRIENDLY
❤️ CAT FRIENDLY
❤️ KID FRIENDLY
❤️ POTTY TRAINED
❤️ EXTREMELY LOVING
❤️ DESPERATE TO BE WITH HER HUMAN
Her only major hurdle is separation anxiety.
And yes, it’s a big one.
But she is worth it.
This girl has survived too much for us to give up on her now.
We don’t need 100 people.
We don’t need 10 people.
We need ONE.
One person who sees this post and thinks:
“I can be her person.”
One person who has the time.
The patience.
The compassion.
The willingness to work through the training.
One person who won’t give up when it’s inconvenient.
One person who will let Popcorn sleep beside them, follow them around the house, sit beside them at work, and slowly teach her that being alone for a few minutes doesn’t mean she’s being abandoned forever.
We know you’re out there.
We just haven’t found you yet.
So we’re asking everyone:
PLEASE SHARE POPCORN.
Share her with your retired parents.
Your work-from-home friends.
Your dog-loving coworkers.
Your friends who own businesses.
Your rescue friends.
Your neighbors.
Someone, somewhere, is going to see Popcorn and know exactly why they’re supposed to find her.
Looking in her eyes breaks my soul. 💔
