Congratulations to our founding director, Dr. Stephen Grace for this honor!! 👨🏼‍🌾🥼

Today AEEA is highlighting Dr. Stephen Grace, Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. Grace is the 2026 recipient of the Robert McAfee Environmental Education Lifetime Service Award. His love of learning and work in urban agriculture have made a positive impact on his community and central Arkansas. Dr. Grace became a teacher because his fascination with the natural world pushed him to not only ask questions, but also to share that sense of wonder with others.

AEEA recognizes individuals who have made an impact in environmental and outdoor learning through fostering creative and critical thinking in students, collaborating with other organizations and individuals, facilitating hands-on learning and leadership development within their students, addressing issues of local importance, and implementing innovative projects. Congratulations, Dr. Stephen Grace and thank you for sharing your sense of wonder with others!

We were honored to be a host for the Youth Conference during the National Conference of the American Community Garden Association held in Little Rock in June. We had so much fun with the kids!!

Months of planning for crops to come in at the right time paid off to allow the kids to learn about growing and harvesting things like potatoes, cucumbers, radishes , lettuce, and kale. They also learned the importance of after harvest care before learning how to plant sweet potatoes! 🥔🥒🥬🫜

The ever-popular 🐝 bees were a big hit when our longtime beekeeper, Peter Stuckey, smoked the hives to give the kids an up close look at live bees, hives, and taste summer honey 🍯 from the honeycomb.

Our guest farmer, Krystle Rucker, from Rucker Farm Co. hosted Hands in the Soil, Mind at Ease sessions teaching how growing food helps kids to slow down, focus, and nourish themselves.🌿😌

A big thanks goes out to the CGA officers and volunteers and Mark Nelson from Oak Forest Community Garden - Little Rock for their support! 🤝

Pop up farm stands are back as our supplies last! 🥔🧅🌶️We have a variety of late spring crops that have come in, and had a lot of help from our friends to make it happen! Come shop for affordable, naturally-grown produce Wednesdays from 11A - 2P in June as supplies last. 🧑‍🌾
