Im terrible about posting here on the business page, but Zelda is too precious not to share! ššš„¹
Zelda's Story from her mom Josie out of Colorado:
We adopted Zelda from a local animal shelter in 2015. She was an emaciated little pup with a big heart and boundless energy. Genetic testing confirmed she was 100% Doberman Pinscher and - despite petite size - she has lived up to the breed in every way. She is confident, silly, dramatic, smart, observant, snuggly, and so very sweet. However, the second I am uneasy about a person or situation, she goes into fearless protection mode until reassured everything is ok. Dobie to the max.
What is uniquely Zelda is her unabashed love of EVERYTHING. People, her kitties, squirrels, her precious stuffies, and every dog she has ever metā¦she loves them all! This extends to the wildlife who frequent our backyard - particularly the foxes and skunks. We do not purposely let her interact with the wild animals (she is VERY up-to-date on her rabies vaccine) - this irritates her as she thinks the fox is a dog-friend she can see through the patio door but we don't let her play with (hence the foxās nickname āpatio dogā). She sees the skunks as her āoutdoor kittiesā - and is convinced if they would just let her snuggle them ONE TIME, they would be her friends for life.
We diligently check for skunks every single night and every single morning before we let the dogs out, but sometimes, despite our best efforts, we miss them. On those occasions, Zelda finds them IMMEDIATELY - not to harm themā¦just to try to hug them. Unfortunately, skunks are not fans of forced snuggles and they spray her every single time. Our other dog, Zora, has learned that skunks are not friends and will stay as far away from them as possible. Not Zelda.
This is how we met and became dedicated customers to BearBlingbyMB. Zelda - with her multiple skunk encounters per year - needs new collars regularly. Skunk smell seeps into everything and the aroma of a direct shot is almost impossible to get rid of. The collars themselves are beautiful! We think MB makes the BEST collars and we donāt buy collars anywhere else! They are sturdy and fancy - and, oh, so very Zelda! Only the best for our best girl!
We thought maybe this year would be our last with her because Zelda was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma in April. She went through four rounds of chemo this summer and had many setbacks, but her courage and eternally-jazzed nature never wavered. She finished chemo and was declared in remission in late August. Lymphoma is considered treatable in dogs, but generally not curable, so logically we know it's a matter of time before the cancer returns. Until then, we are living every day with optimism, gratitude, and in awe of our strong, brave girl and her unbreakable spirit.
Zelda has celebrated her remission the only way she knows howā¦attempting to hug a skunk. That means we need another collar - or 2 - from MB. I hope we need many more new collars down the roadā¦not because I want her to get skunked repeatedly, but because I want my best girl here and well enough to seek out skunks for as long as possible.
