So a puppy cannot regulate its own body temperature when born. This is why you see the puppies together so they can stay warm. A puppy will instinctively move away from a heat source when it is too warm. Another interesting fact is a puppy will be content away from the pack if it is warm, however, if it is cold, it will cry out in distress! The mother usually will not move her puppies after the first week when they cry out in distress! This is what occurs during the Neonatal Period (First 12 Days).
