Molly, the Moluccan cockatoo, is out celebrating World Parrot Day!

One in three parrot species face extinction mostly from habitat destruction and the pet trade. These birds are seed dispersers and are extremely important in maintaining a healthy rainforest.

The Little Rock Zoo supports the World Parrot Trust and is home to four species of parrot!

Did you know….
Black Rhinos are native to Eastern and Southern Africa? They are critically endangered with only about 6,000 left in the wild due to poaching for their horns. They have 2 horns made of keratin, which is the same material as your hair and fingernails, and can continuously grow. Black Rhinos can be recognized by their prehensile lips, which they use to feed on bushes and trees. They are solitary by nature and very territorial.

Male Black Rhinos (like our Kevin) can even weigh up to 3,000 lbs! Black Rhinos are most active at dusk and dawn, but can be found wallowing in the middle of the day to keep cool, which Zumi loves to do!

Wanna help rhinos? Join the AAZK fundraiser at Dust Bowl Lanes and Lounge on July 12, 2026: https://www.littlerockzoo.com/zoo-blog/blog-posts/2025/11/bowling-for-rhinos/

Come see our Rhinos on your next visit to the Zoo!

Bugtopia is Buzzing—And So Are Your Pledges!
At our Naturalist Station in the Nature Playground, our educators and volunteers have been exploring the fascinating world of bugs with guests just like you. Many of you have already taken the leap and made a pledge to protect our tiny neighbors and their vital ecosystems. Now, we want to see those pledges in action!

Show Us Your Impact! Whether you’re getting your hands dirty or spreading the word, we want to celebrate your wildlife-saving wins. Drop a comment below showing how you’ve followed through on your commitment! Or, if you’ve been lucky enough to see a Bugtopia star, share the pic here!

Spring Pledges Refresh:
•Plant native wildflowers,
•Share what you've learned with others
•Participate in citizen science projects

If you haven't made a pledge yet, there is still plenty of time before the bugs head out in September. Our pledge options change seasonally to match the needs of our local wildlife, so stop by to see how you can help this month!
