Sorry for the inactivity everyone! After a lot of deliberation and consideration, I won’t be raising axolotls anymore.
There are several reasons, a lot of which is the crazy amount of time it takes. From the time the axolotl hatches, to the time of selling, is typically a MINIMUM of 3 months. And every single day they require fresh water and live food. Just keeeping up with all the water changes for 50-100 axolotls is too much for me.
I am also no longer able to reliably get the food required to feed the baby axolotls. For my last batch of babies, the brine shrimp didn’t want to hatch over and over again, and then my local pet stores stopped being able to get live blackworms in.
And as with everything else, costs have jumped up. So getting the blackworms shipped directly to me was almost double the cost of what it used to be. Since this is just a hobby, it simply wasn’t doable. And I don’t want to bring the axolotls into the world if I can’t feed them properly. That is not responsible breeding.
All that being said, I still have a lot of axolotls. So I’ll be putting a lot of them up for adoption on my website. I still have not decided who exactly I’ll be keeping, so stay updated on who gets added to the website!
I’m hoping to find homes for every adoptable axolotl by the end of the summer. So there will be good deals. I’ll also be doing some local exotic animal expos as much as I can. So stay posted for places I might be!
Thank you to everyone who has purchased an axolotl from me previously, and thank you to all who will!!! Breeding axolotls has been a wonderful learning experience, and I haven’t given up on amazing world of exotic animals! Just turning to something without the water changes…
