Make sure your pets stay up to date with their rabies vaccinations.

A raccoon tested positive for rabies yesterday after attacking a dog near Biltmore Oaks Drive in Bethlehem on May 26. Please use caution and avoid animals behaving in unusual ways.

The best way to keep your pets safe is to ensure that they're current on rabies vaccination. Rabies can spread to people and pets through a bite or scratch.

If you or your child have been bitten or scratched by any stray animals or an animal suspected of having rabies, preventive treatment for rabies is necessary. If you believe you've been exposed, immediately seek medical care and let them know you were exposed. Then, contact the Gwinnett County Health Department at 770.339.4260 and ask for the epidemiologist on call.

To report the animal and have it picked up, please call the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Bite Office at 770.339.3200 ext. 5576; after hours, contact Dispatch non-emergency at 770.513.5700.

🦌 THAT BABY DEER DOESN'T NEED YOUR HELP. IT NEEDS YOU TO LEAVE.

Every May, wildlife rehab centers get FLOODED with "orphaned" fawns.

99% of them were NOT orphaned.
They were KIDNAPPED. By well-meaning humans.

HOW DEER PARENTING WORKS:
▸ Mothers leave fawns alone for 8-12 hours at a time
▸ This is NORMAL and INTENTIONAL
▸ Fawns have no scent — predators can't find them
▸ The mother stays AWAY so her scent doesn't attract predators
▸ She returns to nurse 2-3 times per day, usually at dawn and dusk
▸ The fawn's job: stay still, stay quiet, stay alive

HOW TO KNOW IT'S FINE:
✓ Lying quietly curled up = NORMAL (it's hiding)
✓ Ears up and alert = NORMAL
✓ Alone for hours = NORMAL
✓ In your yard, garden, or under a bush = NORMAL

WHEN TO ACTUALLY CALL FOR HELP:
▸ Fawn is crying continuously for 24+ hours
▸ Fawn is visibly injured (bleeding, limping, open wound)
▸ Dead doe nearby (roadkill)
▸ Fawn is covered in flies or has visible maggots
▸ Fawn is wandering and following humans/dogs

WHAT NOT TO DO:
❌ Don't touch it (human scent CAN cause rejection in some cases)
❌ Don't move it
❌ Don't bring it inside
❌ Don't feed it (cow's milk kills fawns — wrong composition)
❌ Don't post "found a lost baby deer!" on social media

LATE MAY — PEAK FAWN SEASON:
Fawns are being born RIGHT NOW across America.
You WILL find one in your yard. Or under your deck. Or in your garden.

The kindest thing you can do: walk away.
She's coming back. She always does.

Your rescue instinct is beautiful.
But in this case, the rescue IS the danger.

KARA just pulled up off the coast of Georgia… and yeah, that hits different. 😳🌊
16 feet of great white, pinging off the Georgia shoreline at 5:18 PM today, just cruising the Atlantic like she owns it — calm, quiet, and completely unbothered.
What makes it wild?
Her last known location was off the California coast on April 2nd… and now she’s casually checking in near Savannah and St. Simons like it’s part of the route. 👀
Out near Tybee Island, Jekyll Island, Brunswick, and the Georgia coast, the water already has that mysterious vibe — dark tides, shifting currents, low visibility, and that feeling you’re not seeing everything beneath you…
Now imagine knowing something that big is moving just under the surface.
Nobody’s panicking… but let’s be honest — people are definitely thinking twice before stepping into the water tonight. 😭
From Savannah to the Golden Isles, people all across coastal Georgia are watching a little closer today.
Because in Georgia waters, it’s not always about what you see… it’s about what sees you first.
Welcome to Georgia — where the marshes run deep, the Atlantic stays unpredictable, and something massive just checked in. 🌊🦈
