Sally Cole sent me a video and joking saying let's see you do this.
And as odd as it might sound a lot of the cool things we can do with a horse are not tricks. However they are actually fundamental foundation steps that we do to get the horse to be a willing partner and make the well rounded horse that will do anything for us. In this video I am doing what we call "join up". I'm using
CVX Shock N Awe. A CVX Performance Horses 2 year old stud prospect that is show a lot of promise. As you can see in the beginning he has a lot of life and can really move. Enjoy everyone and thank you for your following.

You got a horse to have fun and there is nothing like loping out in the open and the fear you had is gone and all that is left is the fun and joy. I'm so proud of Shelby and her horse. It's took a while to get him to be a solid horse but he's doing great. Shelby has put in the time to learn and gain confidence in herself. It's so fun to watch you enjoy your horse thank you for letting me help you in this journey.

Keener horsemanship and training is happy to help you with your horse through putting rides, training, giving one on one lessons and group lessons. Please feel feel free to contact me for you and your horses needs

As we progress through our horsemanship and riding we find ourselves trying new things or pushing to get better. This will often put us into a state of being uncomfortable. The thing to remember is to push yourself to that spot stay for a short time then back to the comfortable spot to relax, move and breathe. Each time staying in the uncomfortable spot longer. As you stay longer focus on your body usually you will find one or two things that start to tight up first when you start to get uncomfortable. For example your arm not holding your reins. If that arm gets tight it will throw your balance and body position off. So you want to focus on keeping that arm loose if that is what starts your body being stiff. In doing so you will accomplish these feelings.
1. You will keep yourself thinking. If you're thinking you're reacting keep you in the pilot seat not the passenger seat. You can't be the leader if you're just along for the ride.
2. You will keep breathing. If your body gets tight more then likely your also holding your breath.
3. You can mind busy by giving it something to think about other then what makes you uncomfortable. This will allow you to stay longer.
4. It will keep your body moving and moving with your horse. Remember when riding you need to be more like a towel moving with your horse not like a rigid 2x4. You will stay balanced witch will make you feel more comfortable witch will help you relax.
Using your your off arm as an example things you can do to help. Most of the time this happens when you are riding single handed on the reins. If this is the case sometimes it's because when you're riding 2 handed you're using the reins for balance to keep you on always pulling on the horses mouth. Here is a few things you can try.
1. Move your arm in 3 different positions. Go from straight to a 45 degree to a 90 degree angle and then back to straight.
2. P your thumb in you pocket or belt loop. Sometimes you just have to get it out of the way so it doesn't cause you to be out of balance.
3. Hold the tail of a rein, romals or tail of your rope. Doing this will give that arm something to do. This will also tell you if you are using your reins for balance but as you ride your arm will be moving to find balance and so will your body. Your body will find the sweet spot and your arm will relax making you comfortable.
In closing remember to breathe, think, and move with your horse. Push yourself to stay longer and get more comfortable. And as always have fun with your horse.

Real work is not just for your horse it's good for you as well. Your trainer or coach can tell you over and over that you need to use your feet more but until you are using your hands for something else you don't realize how much you're not using your lags. Here Denise is getting to work a c**t from her horse. She has to use her hands to direct the c**t and her body and legs to direct her horse into position. It's really a fun way to find out if you are communicating with your horse the way you think you are. I encourage you to find ways to test yourself.

Biggest tip I can give anyone on how to get and retain a broke horse is ride them like they are broke. I see too many horses being treated like baby's. Progress them up in their training and ask them to do more by asking with less. If you want your horse to be broke you have to progress out of the o-ring snaffle and use your body and lags more. They will never progress if you're pulling them around by their nose. You can always go back for a refresher you can always go back and two hand one if they need it but they will never get better if you don't allow them to make a mistake or be great. Push yourself and them to be the best both of you can be.

When their mind is right and their foundation is solid. You can ask them to do anything and they will shine CVX Royal just doing his job like a old pro

At some point in time you have to give your horse a job. You have to let them know there is a purpose to what you're asking them to do. Go out on the trails go up-and-down hills move cows if you can find any. Go rope cut barrel race or show. Anything to let your horse know there is a purpose to what you're asking him to do. It's also a test for him to see if he's learning and retaining what you're teaching him.
This is CVX Royal out on the job starting to learn the purpose of what I've been teaching him. Couldn't be more happy with this 3 year old stud c**t from CVX Performance Horses
