THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE, her name is Maeve and she is a true rockstar. This summer I was lucky enough to have one of my long time students come back on her summer college break to work along side me. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have had the summer I did, and none of it would have been possible without her. She is incredibly talented, hardworking and one of the most positive young ladies I have had the pleasure of working with.
Often as professionals we all talk about trying to find good working students who want to embrace the grit of the industry, truly learn the good yet hard lessons, as well as indulge in all this industry has to offer. As the years go on, it becomes harder to find the young riders who want to put in the work. Often everyone wants the opportunity to do all the fun things but doesn’t want to do the hard work that is necessary to get there.
However, not for this young lady. It’s comes so naturally to her. 3:30am mornings, hours of driving to horse shows, days and days of riding naughty young horses, hours of grooming and clipping horses, gritty farm work that started as soon as the sun was up, and super hot humid summer days. No matter the circumstances she was always smiling, always asking to do more, putting in the work and chasing every opportunity she could get. I don’t think there was a single opportunity this girl said no to, and I truly admire that about her.
Last week we showed at fieldstone, it was sadly her last week with us before she headed back to college. We embraced every single moment of it. Her last class of the week, we were standing at the in gate and she looked at me and says “I hope you know how much this all meant to me, you made all my dreams come true.” Though - I about cried, i looked at her and said - No you made your dreams come true, you took the opportunity and put in the work. Of course, I had a helping hand but she truly did it. She did THE WORK!
.eq , you made my dreams come true as well, I wouldn’t of wanted anyone else by my side all summer long.
