That’s a lot of cats!! Please help if you can! 🩷🩷🩷

We are asking desperately asking for donations of supplies and monetary donations for vet bills. Yesterday, we took in 54 cats from the Sheriffs Department and still have several more that will be coming in. We are bursting at the seams with kitties and could really use the communities support!

Winter storms put extra stress on livestock, so proper preparation is key.

Bedding:

Deep, dry bedding is one of the most effective ways to help animals retain body heat. Straw is ideal for cold weather because it traps air and provides insulation far better than shavings or sawdust. Bedding should be kept clean and dry — wet bedding pulls heat from the body and increases the risk of illness and frostbite.

Draft control:

Shelter is critical, but airflow should be controlled. Check barns, run-ins, and sheds for gaps, broken boards, or open seams that allow wind to blow directly onto animals. Blocking drafts at animal level while still allowing ventilation higher up helps prevent respiratory issues without trapping moisture.

Water during power outages:

When electricity isn’t available, keeping water from freezing requires planning. Large rubber tubs are easier to break ice out of than hard plastic. Insulating troughs with straw bales, placing them out of the wind, and topping them off frequently with warmer water can significantly slow freezing. Dark-colored tubs can also absorb more heat from daylight.
