Tick season is upon us 🦮🐾

Here is some helpful info on what to do if you spot a tick on your furry friend!!

Great question, pet parents! 🐾

If the tick is simply crawling on your dog or cat, it’s less likely that disease has been transmitted. But it is a good reminder to make sure your pet is up to date on flea and tick prevention.

If the tick is attached, it’s best to remove it promptly before it becomes engorged. Ticks transmit disease while feeding, and as they fill with blood they can regurgitate infectious organisms into your pet. Early removal helps lower the risk.

After a tick bite, keep an eye out for symptoms such as:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Lameness
• Fever

If you notice any of these signs, or you’re unsure what to do, give your veterinarian a call for guidance. And here’s a handy tip: using a lint roller after outdoor adventures can sometimes remove ticks before they even attach!
