please remember to be kind to your veterinary professionals.
you’ll never see how much we care for your pet, how hard we work to save these beloved animals; day in and day out. you’ll never see how hard we cry for our patients, how it affects our mental health & daily life. you’ll never see the heartbreak that comes with this career - for both us & our clients & you’ll never see the emotional & physical pain we go through. you’ll never see how we hug your animals so they aren’t feeling scared and alone, how we kiss their noses and silently beg that they make it through their procedure or illness. you’ll never see how many tests & diagnostics we run to get you answers as pet parents, you’ll never see the state of these animals who come in in crisis & you’ll never see how far we go to care for them, love them, & make them as comfortable as they can be. this is not an easy job, but its also not “just a job”.
we don't get to “just play with puppies & kittens” all day. most days are hard, other days are harder, but some days are really really good. we live for our patients & for those good days. we don’t always get nice & well behaved cats &/or dogs. we spend a lot of time learning new techniques for the safety of the patient, the assistant/tech, & the doctor. sometimes we get hurt/injured/bit on the job, that's never fun. we take what we do seriously & safety for all is our priority. we don’t always get a lunch break. we don't always get to go home right away after we close, if there's an emergency. lots of the time is spent cleaning up messes, which we don’t mind too much (its just a part of caring for our patients). when we go home, sometimes we cry again.
I am beyond grateful for my doctors, my techs, my other assistant, & our receptionist. they are like a family to me, they offer hugs & kind words when I need it most. they look out for me, care for me, & encourage me to learn more & expand my skills everyday. I appreciate each & every single one of them. I can't imagine being in another field, this is where I'm meant to be.
if you got this far, thank you. pic of my client Gus for nose boop tax.
