Meet Ursula the Uromastyx! 🦎🏜️These guys are also known as “spiny tailed lizards”, and are great pets for intermediate reptile keepers.

Quick Facts:
-Size: 10-16 inches
-Lifespan: 15-30 years (with proper care!)
-Adults will need a 4’x2’x2’ enclosure
-Need high quality UVB for a 12 hour day/night cycle
-Humidity: 20-30% (desert-like environment)
-Diet: Herbivore- Leafy greens, flowers, vegetables, and lentils/seeds
-They need calcium powder sprinkled onto their greens
-Basking spots with a halogen heat lamp are necessary
-Substrates: Excavator clay or play sand mixed with top soil are both great options

Fun facts!
-They use their spiny tails as a defensive club to protect themselves while in burrows
-Their name comes from the Greek word “Oura” for “tail” and “Mastix” for “whip”
-As ectothermic (cold-blooded) animals, they change color to absorb heat in the morning, and slowly get more colorful as they warm up
