I Rescued a Human Today

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.

I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.

I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today.

Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past.

I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.

I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.

I would promise to always be by her side.

I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.

So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors.

So many more to be saved.

At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Casey County Animal Advocacy Group CCAA started the TNR program back in March. It was made known to the City Council, at the Fiscal Court meeting. Through both radio stations where Jean Wolf did an on line interview, in the paper and on various Fb pages. She personally applied for and eventually acquired her 501c3 not for profit status so Dr Courtney Brockman could accept donations for this program. Since starting this project, at various times request for funds have been asked for through the same avenues with very little response. At this time we are once again trying to get donations. Yes the account is presently at $20. If we do not get some donations, then this project will stop. This has long been a community problem. If the community cannot step up to help then the animals are once again the losers.
Kelly has been the Kitty hero since the program started. She gives up her days off, in rain, heat, cold, nasty people who don’t want the cats altered. ( go figure that 🤷‍♀️). She is not one to give up and she is truly an asset to this community. Donated funds go directly to Dr Courtney Brockman. These funds are tax deductible. If you would like a receipt, or have any questions please contact Jean Wolf at 574 217 6358.

A very dedicated individual has been spending her 2 days off of work a wk, to live trap the feral cats of Liberty. Kelly is very dedicated n driven in her efforts to help the voiceless. Care givers are notified when traps will be set n asked not to feed the cats making it easier to trap them.
How difficult is it to understand why this mission is so important n urgent. I simple request, please Do Not Feed. It has now been brought to my attention that someone sprang the 4 traps behind the IGA store this past Monday. For that reason, traps will no longer be set behind IGA. This is a volunteer effort to curb the feral population. There is no point in wasting valuable time in places where our help is not wanted.

Has this been seen? Maybe if the animals were kept in better condition something like this wouldn't be happening. (Obviously I know this isn't you, but this isn't heard of in shelters where there is adaquate housing, enrichment, and overall care.) this was absolutely the result of negligence.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!

Your help is needed in Liberty, Casey County KY
As many of you may know, a group of like-minded animal lovers have organized a program to spay and neuter stray cats in the City of Liberty. To date, a total of 44 cats have been Trapped, Neutered and Returned (TNR) to their original home territory. This program will greatly reduce the number of stray cats in our community. While the cats are in our Veterinarian's care, Dr. Courtney Brockman, they are also vaccinated against the Rabies virus. So far, we have focused on the areas of the Casey County Hospital, Liberty Square Shopping Center and the Casey County Adult Day Care. We are in desperate need of funding to continue this Community program. Without funding, the program can't continue. If you could possibly donate to this cause, you can either deliver or mail your donations to Casey County Veterinary Services at 190 Hustonville St, Liberty, KY 42539. If you have any questions you may call the veterinary clinic at: 606-787-0030 or Jean at 574-217-6358. Please share this information with your friends.
Thank you for caring about the animals in Casey County.

I'm absolutely appalled at the Tin Can the town calls a shelter! I called for help with a dog who happened to have a gash on right it's hip. The tail had the bone sticking out and a left eye injury of some sort. I was told on 25th when he was picked up that he would be seen by a vet! As of August 4th he still has not seen a vet. The "Transport vehicle " was ridiculous 🙄. A pick up truck with a cage in the back. I also donated toys, dog food (wet/dry), milk bones, busy bones, $170.00 worth. My question is where exactly did all of it go? August 4th- There was not one toy or raw hide, nothing. They have nothing to lay on, not even kuranda beds, they can be hosed off. No air when it's hot and no heat when it gets cold. The town doesn't have any idea of how to take care of the animals in their care, things need to change. I'd also like to thank the rescue that pulled him from there so he could get the vet care he desperately needed.

At the urging of the CCAA there was a full house for the fiscal court meeting in February. We had hoped to find out what was going to happen to our dogs n cats since our contract w Lincoln County was not being renewed. Since that meeting there has been bits n pieces of information in the newspaper, on radio n by word of mouth on various pages on FB.
We have a bldg located at 1175 Campbellsville St in Liberty. You drive past the recycle center n the pole bldg is located towards the back of the property . It is newly constructed n the dogs have been located there since the end of March or there abouts. This bldg is yet to be finished. Electric was completed only about a wk ago.
We are now into June n it is getting hotter.
I am inviting ALL concerned citizens to become a part of this project. There are many things lacking n in order to make this “shelter” work, we need input from more than myself.
Not all items needed cost an arm n a leg. Clips on metal water buckets n food pans so dogs are not skating on a slurry of slop. Dividers between kennels so disease n parasites are not transferred from one dog to another. A sink n hot water so food n water bowls can be disinfected. To only mention a few things.
We need adopters!! There are great dogs there. People want a no kill shelter. The only way that happens is if dogs are adopted or found rescue for. I may be wrong, but I believe only 2 or 3 dogs have been adopted since being located there. I have been able to get quite a few into rescue but that has slowed dramatically because people are not getting adopt from them fast enough. People, YOU need to get involved. YOU need to care enough to make this work until our permanent solution is found!!
Eric Pruner is our ACO. He has been instructed by Randy Dial to only pick up strays. No owner surrenders are accepted. No cats are accepted.
In order to contact Eric, you have to call Randy Dials office.
About the same time this shelter was in the works, CCAA started a TNR program for the feral cat population in Liberty. Trap/neuter/release. Dr Courtney is our one lady of the hr. Kelly, our trapping hero has been at it from the beginning. This is being funded by donations. I am taking this opportunity to ask for donations so this program can continue. $1, $5, $10. It all adds up n all monies can be mailed, dropped off or phoned in to Dr Courtney’s office. This program will continue as long as the funding is there n there are feral cats running in the city.
I would love to see as many faces this month at the fiscal court meeting, as were there in February. WE need to fix the problems of animals being dumped n the attitude that it’s not my problem. Friends it takes a village. Help our strays, injured, abused.

What an awesome idea!

With warmer days ahead, don't forget to enjoy Henry's Houses! ☀️

Henry’s Houses, our canine cabins sponsored by Davis and Stacie Marksbury, give our dogs a break from shelter life and allow them to experience a few hours in a home environment. Each tiny house has furniture, heating/AC, and a fenced-in yard for dogs to run and play, which they love on sunny days!

Visitors and volunteers are able to use Henry’s Houses Tuesday - Friday from 1pm - 5pm. They are located at our Main Adoption Center at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike. We hope you'll stop by to visit with an adoptable friend soon!
