Freedom. Forage. Friends. 🌾✨
It’s the rhythm of life at For Hank's Sake. Love is never rushed here…

This post from six years ago reminded me how something as simple as hay time with the herd can carry so much depth. It’s not just feeding—it’s listening, observing, connecting. It’s one of the most sacred times of day here.

The sound of horses munching hay… it softens the edges of a hard moment. It calms the heart. It opens space for healing. I’ve practiced this quiet rhythm of presence and care since the beginning. This philosophy has always guided my herd.

Since 2011, Spirit-Centered Horsemanship has been the heart of everything I do—every interaction, every quiet moment, every shared breath with my horses. It’s not new. It’s our root. It’s the way we live—one steeped in trust, in truth, and in honoring the soul of every horse who chooses to walk beside us. ⚖️

Throwback thanks to: Hank, JoJo, Clover, Sugar, Scarlet, Cochise, BraveHeart, Hotcha, Jasmine, and Res.

The herd has changed over the years—some have become equine angels, their hoofprints forever etched in my heart. 🕊️ Others have just begun their journey with us—like Mya, Apollo, and our beloved donkeys.

In rescue, there are ebbs and flows… goodbyes and hellos… lessons whispered in every hoofbeat.

You carry me daily. You always have… and you guide me still. 🌿

That’s a mighty fine career and title. My best one yet. 🤓🤩

Hanky...changing lives ❤️

Today, we’re sharing with you the heart-warming story of Hank — a tall Tennessee Walking horse + the inspiration for the nonprofit For Hank’s Sake.

While Hank is out ringing bells and fulfilling his volunteer schedule, his buddy Cochise just landed his first job!

Cochise will be working part time at a Stockyard Company in Kentucky with his new friend, Matt. He will report to work Wednesday night and stay until Friday afternoon, when he comes back to the stables.

He will be helping Matt herd cattle (in a kind way) as they come into the yards. Life on the farm has prepared him well for this role because he is surrounded by cows all day long. He is not afraid of them, so this will make the job much easier on him mentally. The exercise will be good for him too as I ease him out of “retirement” and back into a working role again.

I’m proud of this horse and how far he has come since his rescue from the kill pen in 2017. Life wasn’t easy for Cochise before his rescue. He suffered many physical and emotional traumas. It took years for him to sort all of that trauma out in his brain. Because love is never rushed at the stables, I gave him all the time he needed to reconcile his past. Gentle training was done throughout his rehabilitation process so as not to upset his then fragile mind and spirit. The result is a courageous, fun, goofy, and kind-hearted horse.

Affectionately known as GOAT around the barn, this boy never fails to delight our days. Once relegated to a senseless slaughter number of 452, he now has a proud and bold name that honors the horse he has become:

Cochise, The Chief
"Strong as Oak"
Reason to Live #452

Hay time for the For Hank's Sake herd!

It’s a relaxing and peaceful process making hay nets, delivering hay to every horse’s pasture, then watching and listening to the herd peacefully munching their bounty.

Our Story

Equinox Stables, LLC works in unison with its sister nonprofit organization, For Hank’s Sake. Together these two organizations are devoted to the rehabilitation and retraining of rescued and adopted horses through a proprietary habituation model. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety, comfort and lifelong security of disregarded and discarded horses.

At Equinox Stables, our horses are groomed daily, compassionately trained, fed with the highest quality nutrition and watched over round-the-clock by our devoted team of caretakers who are committed to each horse’s long-term health and well-being. Our philosophy is to encourage and empower each and every one of our horses to live with confidence and trust and to experience the joy of creative play. We celebrate their milestone achievements, delight in their daily learnings and revel in their accomplishments.

Equinox is centered on horse owners and trainers, offering them natural horsemanship training, equine nutrition counseling, as well as equine business practices and profitability consulting. Equinox promotes compassionate ownership and offers business insights on how to conduct barn operations with financial solvency.
