PAW Alliance New Leash on Life & New Start in Life

Piedmont Animal Welfare Alliance is an animal welfare & social justice nonprofit in Forsyth County, NC. We envision a world where no person or animal will be thrown away, and our mission is to make our community one where all pets and people have safe and loving homes. www.paw-alliance.org

To fulfill our mission, we have two programs:
A New Leash on Life prison dog-training program: Saving Men's

Lives, One Dog at a Time. Shelter dogs in need of training receive 10 weeks of training: crate- and house-training; obedience training, advanced obedience, and some agility. Qualified inmate-trainers work under the volunteer guidance of instructors from the W-S Dog Training Club. All dogs are spay/neutered, fully vaccinated and under veterinary care. This program changes the lives of both dogs AND men, who perhaps for the first time, receive unconditional love. Our trainers' recidivism rate, since 2015, is 0%! Our second program, A New Start in Life, offers temporary loving care for domestic violence survivors' pets. We provide foster care, medical care, and all necessities while the survivor is in the d.v. We ALWAYS need volunteers and fosters. For $350, you can sponsor a New Start in Life pet. These pets have been traumatized, just as their domestic violence survivor has. We and our foster homes need help caring for these beloved pets while their human is in the d.v. shelter. Your generous gift will help pay for food, treats, bedding, and much-needed veterinary care.

Speaking of wellness... our dapper little gent Beau had his check-up this week, and he crushed it! Friendly, polite, and totally unbothered when the schedule ran a bit late—he was the perfect patient.

Introducing... Beau!

From the Davie County Animal Shelter to the training grounds of New Leash on Life—Beau has officially entered the building (and he’s bringing the party with him)!

Don’t let the name fool you. This “Southern gentleman” is actually a tuxedo-wearing goofball who’s all about the fun. At just 7 months old and 20 lbs of joy, Beau is rocking the puppy energy and a face that could melt steel.

With a gene mix we’re affectionately calling “100% FUN” (maybe a little Spitz, Border Collie, Sheltie... who knows?), Beau is already mastering his training basics—thanks to his true love: treats.

Whether he’s sitting pretty or spreading smiles, one thing’s for sure: this boy is ready to win hearts and turn heads.

Party on, sweet Beau! We’re so glad you’re here.

Sunday Shoutout!

Meet Poppy !

Sweet Poppy was rescued from a shelter as a tiny 8-week-old pup. Since then, she’s grown into a beautiful, loyal girl who's just waiting for the right person to see the incredible potential she has.

Despite being with rescue for a whole year, Poppy hasn’t gotten a single adoption inquiry—but we know her perfect match is out there. She’s about 1 year old, likely a Shepherd/Pittie mix, and she’s already been house trained and social with other big dogs.

Poppy is currently boarding at a vet’s office, dreaming of a home (or even a foster!) where she can stretch her legs, learn leash skills, and be loved like she deserves.

She’s smart, affectionate, and ready to start her next chapter with someone who sees her for the gem she is. If you’re looking for a pup who’s been overlooked for too long, please consider giving Poppy the home she’s been patiently waiting for.

Morning adventures for Class 21 pups!

Swiffer and Tess had the best time stretching their legs at Reynolda this morning. Tess discovered her new favorite hobby—rolling in the grass with pure joy—while Swiffer was all tail wags meeting so many friendly humans and pups along the way.

Both girls handled the outing like pros, soaking up the sights, smells, and sunshine. These two are not just learning—they’re thriving—and they’re almost ready to take all this confidence and curiosity into their forever homes.

Swiffer and Tess can’t wait to find families who will love joining them on every walk, roll, and adventure.
