Throwback Thursday--In 1981, Sherdon Woolstenhulme was awarded "Columbia Sheepman of the Year." Sherd, Gwen, and their four children all worked in the sheep business. In 1980, the Woolstenhulmes consigned the Reserve Champion Ewe and Ram and in 1981 they showed the National Champion Ram. Today, the Don Woolstenhulme Family continues the tradition. Don always brings top quality, competitive sheep to the National Show and Sale. Woolstenhulme sheep are renown for exceptional wool quality.

The Woolstenhulme's were, equally, as well known, in the Coalville, Utah, area for running the very popular "Chicken Inn." This "must stop" restaurant served terrific meals, most featuring their signature broasted chicken. The family retired from the restaurant business only a few years ago.

The Woolstenhulme's exemplify what many Columbia sheep people are today--working folks who put in a full day on-the-job and, then, return home to their other passion in life; a barn full of Columbia sheep.

Congratulations to the newly named 2025-2026 Ohio Lamb and Wool Ambassador Cortney Copeland of Logan County. Cortney will be representing the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association over the next year at sheep, lamb, and wool related events, including our youth events and the Ohio State Fair.

A bit of industry history: Cortney is the 70th representative in this position, what started as the Ohio Wool Queen in 1955-1956, later transitioned into the Ohio Lamb and Wool Queen, and in 2019-2020 transitioned into the Ohio Lamb and Wool Ambassador, it is a program near and dear to many people in Ohio's sheep, lamb and wool industry. The first Ohio Wool Queen was Elaine Leighty of Wyandot County... a full list of queens and ambassadors is available on the website at this link!
