Friends,
I sold my sweet horse farm to the Smith family—Rylen, Carolyn, Todd and Morgan. I couldn’t be more excited about the talent and vision the Smiths bring to expand services to the equine community in Greenbrier County and beyond. The horses who boarded with Fair Haven remain (including mine). The new farm name will be Greenbrier Equine Farm and their page is up and running. The Smiths are just the right fit. I know you will welcome them as you have welcomed me.

As many of you know, I bought the farm after my sweet husband, the love of my life, passed away. I started horse back riding again after a 40-year absence and couldn’t find a place to board a horse. My family thought I had lost my mind when I bought the broken-down farm (which is kinda true) but I knew she had sturdy, beautiful bones and just needed to be loved back to health.

It was a constructive way to grieve. It took me back to my 16 year old self, before corporate impositions, suits and high heels. My soul was filled by the love and support of neighbors, boarders, and the equine community. I learned more about people from horses than I did working for a 5,000 employee organization. Horses tell you exactly what they want and need if you learn to really watch and listen without interpreting through your own lense. They are honest about their agendas. Oh they play games, pull jokes, but mostly on you for their own amusement.

I’m so grateful for the Fairview Road neighbors who welcomed me, guided me, and cheered along the reconstruction. I’m grateful for the experts from the equine community—horse owners, farmers, vets, farriers, dentist, suppliers, hay providers, builders and excavators. I’m grateful to the boarders who entrusted me with their beloved horses. I’m so grateful to my fellow barn workers who showed up in the wind, snow, rain, ice and cold to keep the horses safe. I’m grateful for the many horses who shared their love, secrets and beautiful souls with me. Thank you dear friends for you love and support. It was the adventure of a lifetime. Now, I’m going to take a nap. 😆

Before you light off fireworks this weekend, an anonymous Old Friend who isn’t a fan of them wanted us to pass on a message...

“I've won Grade 1 races in front of a roaring crowd of 80,000 people and been under bright lights. But after all this time, I still don't know why some nights the sky is exploding.”

Fireworks may be fun for humans, but our horses remain unconvinced.
