Flynn & Poppy practicing some group place together 😎
Any day is a good day when you get to play with your best puppy friend! Kobi, the black & brown puppy, is a P4P Pup Academy student, and Poppy, the Berne doodle, is here for our Immersion Program. When they aren’t working hard on their training, they get too enjoy some much needed playtime with each other 😊🦴 #traininggoals #puppyplaytime
Yay Oshie! He tried counter surfing the first day we left him alone with treats nearby. This time was a success!

The trusted ‘place’ command… oh how we ❤️ you. Let’s talk about it!
🐾Place is somewhere you can send your dog to help them settle on command! Where & what you ‘place’ your dog on will vary, as well as what you use it for!
🐾Murphy (black & white GSP): This guy loves everybody & everything, typically has a hard time giving people their personal space & often jumps because he just doesn’t know how to handle all of his excitement! Sending him to ‘place’ helped activate his “off” switch so he was able to effectively co-exist with the guests in his home!
🐾Mochi (tan GSD mix): I’m sure most of you knows our sweet former foster who is very fear based. New environments, as well as new people, tend to overwhelm her & her go to coping mechanism is to retreat & hide (or appear as small as possible). ‘Place’ allowed her have a “safe spot” at a distance from the guests where productive stress was present but remember, productive stress means growth is happening! If your dog has a safe spot for training instances as such, your dog should be left alone! The only person that should be interacting with them is YOU (for reinforcement purposes). Let them admire from a far (: Mochi was brave enough to approach someone she had never met before for some loving (she wasn’t 100% confident in the interaction so we ended up recalling her away & had more ‘place’ time!)
🐾Mello (grey Aussie/GSD): This guy is also fear based but shows it in the form of reactivity (barking, lunging, etc.) to new people, as well as other dogs. He is also very protective of mom & his new baby sister that just entered the world! ‘Place’ offered some decompression time while he used all those senses to make sure the people here were no threat to him. He was able to be released after he settled to check everything out but you’ll notice everyone ignored him, that’s exactly what you want, advocate for that!
Remember, training isn’t linear - what mig
