🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: INTAKE TEMPORARILY CLOSED 🚨

We currently have a kennel cough outbreak in our shelter, and for the safety of all animals, we are temporarily closing intake for dogs.

👉 If you find a stray dog during this time, please hold onto them if you are able while we attempt to locate the owner. This small act can make a HUGE difference and helps keep them out of the shelter while we work through this illness. Most stray pets are found close to home, and many reunite with their families within 24–48 hours.

🐶 What is Kennel Cough?

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that spreads quickly between dogs—especially in places like shelters, boarding facilities, and dog parks. It’s similar to a human cold:
• Causes coughing, sneezing, and lethargy
• Usually mild but can be serious for puppies, seniors, or dogs with weak immune systems
• Spreads through shared air, bowls, toys, and even on clothing

We are taking every precaution to get our animals healthy again and to prevent further spread. 💙

***We have NOT yet had a case of Kennel cough at Willow Hill this season! We would love to keep it that way ;) ***

Kennel Cough cases are on the rise in our region! We highly recommend avoiding public areas and unfamiliar dogs. If your pet is coughing (a dry hack or honk) or is lethargic please schedule a vet appointment and reschedule any grooming or boarding reservations. Kennel cough is airborne and highly contagious. It can also be deadly for older or immune-compromised pets. Bordetella vaccine may or may not protect your pet from the particular strain that is circulating. Please be cautious and courteous of others.
