NEW OFFER!!!!

We are now offering our new program: Operation: loose leash

This program will help you learn how to be the pack leader on your walks! Being able to give your dog the exercise they need is the first step to having a better behaved dog at home.

Being able to have a well structured walk is also safer for you! Having a dog that is pulling you around could result in a fall or having your dog run off.

Contact us in our DMs, email us at [email protected], or give us a call at 610-741-8674 to book your lessons with us!

Lincoln is just so cute! You can't help but squish his face around!

We have some new students that started training this week!

We have Stanley, a 2 year old Basset Hound. He is a very handsome boy who loved some belly rubs.

Next up is Lola, a 4-month old Husky. She is a ball of wild energy, but a very smart girl. She is learning so fast!

And finally we have Lincoln, a 4 year old English Mastiff. He love leaning on you for some pets, or just to be as close as possible to you. His bark and growl are very powerful, but he is a love bug at heart.

This is week one and we are a little ahead of our training schedule getting them to heel out in public! The weather has been so nice that we have seen a lot of people out at the park and the dogs are able to stay focused on the walk!

Whenever we get a new dog to train, we love to understand what breed we are working with. It is so important when picking out a dog for your family, that you look for something that will fit your lifestyle.

Maggie is a Mountain Cur that trained with us over a month ago. Here is a little history on her breed:

The Mountain Cur was bred by early American settlers as a rugged, all-purpose working dog, especially for life in the Appalachian Mountains. Their main jobs included:

- Hunting & Treeing Game: They were prized for their ability to track and tree small game like raccoons and squirrels, and even help with larger game like bear or boar.
- Guarding the Homestead: Mountain Curs were natural protectors, keeping families and farms safe from predators and intruders.
- Farm & Stock Work: They often helped with livestock, proving themselves as versatile farmhands.
- Loyal Companionship: Beyond their work, they were trusted family dogs, bonded closely to their people.

The exact breeds aren’t documented, but historians and dog experts believe they descended from a mix of:

- European Cur-type hunting dogs (used for guarding, herding, and hunting)
-Hounds (for scenting and tracking game)
- Terriers (for grit and tenacity)
- Possibly shepherd-type farm dogs brought by settlers

Over generations, only the toughest, smartest, and most versatile dogs survived and reproduced in the mountain environment, which naturally created the Mountain Cur we know today.

I remembered to record some of the pack walk! This was our second one and it went so great! All the dogs did wonderful, even with lots of distractions, including a helicopter landing on a nearby baseball field!

We just started offering pack walks to current students, as well as graduates! It is a great way to get a refresher and have LeSandro guide you through any little problems that have arisen.

It is so fun to see the dogs all together and doing so well. We switch up where the dogs are walking and who they are walking next to get all the dogs familiar and comfortable with each other. In the middle or at the end of the walk, we do some AKC citizenship drills to make it more challenging for the dogs!

If you have gone through the program and haven't joined our Meet Up group, message us and we will send you the link to join! After you join, you will get notifications for any newly scheduled pack walks with all the details!

Last week right before graduation, we took all the doggies to downtown Knoxville for the ultimate testing of their commands and they all did wonderful! The distractions are countless: people walking, cars, sirens, musicians, conversations, water fountains, smelly smells, and the list goes on! We really wanted to make sure they could all work through the city after dark and around lots of people.

These little students have been doing so good, we have been able to have them off-leash this whole week! While playing inside is fun for them, being able to run outside makes play time way better.

Being trained to be off-leash takes a lot of work, but the freedom that comes with it is very worth while.

We are always watching play time to make sure there is a healthy back and forth of "winning" between the dogs. If one dog is over dominating another constantly, the dog being dominated will get frustrated and can lash out. We always monitor so things never get out of hand.

A lot of dogs that come to us haven't been socialized, so it is important for them to learn slowly how to play and respect each others boundaries.

It is so wonderful to see how much they learn by playing together! They teach each other what is too much and how to play fair.

Woodes is so cute to watch run around in the grass. His little legs make it very entertaining! Every time we work with him it makes me smile!

These pups have been working on their heel and have gotten so good. This was one of our first field trips with them last week and we were so impressed with how they did out in a new place.

It is so important to test your commands in new places. All the new smells and noises make it much more challenging for your dog to stay focused on you and the command they are in. This park is a good easy start to adding distractions and the difficulty just keeps going up from here!
When you go to a new place, you should give your dog a chance to go potty. New places will excite them and they will probably need to go. Also, in new places, you may need to give your dog additional guidance if they seem stuck. The command may seem the same, but sometimes a new place can throw them for a loop!

We have a new class of doggies! They have all just completed their first week and have learned to love their morning routine! They all get some walking time on the treadmill, some grooming, and a walk around the yard.

The treadmill is great for getting some of that excess energy out. Sometimes it takes a bit of getting used to the treadmill before they can go into a full trot, but when they get there, it is beautiful to see. It is a great confidence builder and a wonderful tool for clients to have in their back pocket incase of rain or excessive heat.

The grooming is good for us to create a bond, keep up with hygiene, and get them more comfortable with being touched/checked out for an easier time with your groomer/vet.

The morning routine is a great way for us to start our training for the day and a great way for our doggie students to get going!

We believe 100% in loose leash walks. Letting your dog walk ahead of you means they are taking you on a walk, when the reality should be the opposite. We have so many people come to us that can't even take their dog on a walk because they either can't control their dog, feel like they are going to get pulled down (often people have already fallen trying to walk their dog), or they are afraid their dog will be reactive to other dogs or people.

Not only can it be dangerous for you, for other people, or for your dog, but it makes it an unpleasant experience. If you enjoy walking your dog, you are more likely to take them on walks, which will be better for their physical and mental health (and yours, too)! These doggies need walks to get their energy out and it is often the lack of exercise that causes behavioral problems.

The more often we can take our dogs on walks, the more they gain exposure to different environments, noises, and distractions. This is great for generalizing commands and building your dog's confidence!

If you need help getting your dog to heel, please reach out so you can start enjoying your walks and creating a chain effect of healthy habits for you and your dog.

These summer days have been hot!!! We have to make our field trips happen early in the morning, or later in the evening to save these dogs (and ourselves) from the heat and humidity! We have been having a lot of fun with this batch of dogs regardless of the temperatures. Stay cool out there!!!
