and support with a variety of services. Consultation and positive training for aggression, housetraining, barrier and leash aggression, separation anxiety, and other common behaviors that may cause people to relinquish their pets. Foster care programs that enable dogs and cats to live in a home environment in order to avoid euthanasia at a shelter, recover from prior trauma and get accustomed to life in a household until the pet becomes more adoptable. Assistance to pet owners who are unable to keep their pets and wish to rehome their dog or cat responsibly. For Animal Rescue Organizations and Shelters

Seminars and workshops that teach positive staff interactions with shelter animals and methods to decrease shelter animals’ anxiety. We can show you how to make the shelter experience more humane and less stressful for the dogs and cats in your care. Consultation and training for dogs and cats that need to be rehabilitated due to aggression, fear, separation anxiety and other behaviors that keep pets from finding adoptive homes.

Every single day, we care for 75 cats — including 43 permanent sanctuary residents who cannot be adopted due to medical or behavioral needs.

Here at The Pet Connection, these cats live in a home-like, low-stress environment where they’re safe, loved, and thriving, but their care depends on our community.

Right now, our cat food supplies are running low. It costs about $1,080 each month just to feed them, and we need your help to keep their bowls full.

🐾 Ways to Help:
• Send food directly from our wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/34IS0XPC3P193?ref_=wl_share
• Donate toward food costs: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=E9M8PU4P7JZLQ

Every can, every bag, every contribution goes straight to the cats who depend on us. Together, we can keep them safe, fed, and loved.

Check out that recall!

Wednesday has been homeless for 7 years! She's our friend from Beagles and More. She grew up here after having a family who loved her for 2 years. She was undersocialized and ended up in the shelter due to restrictions on the number of pets you can have. :( She likes some dogs but not all.

Why has no one been interested in her? She's a senior now... let's help her spend her golden years in a home!

We have too many dogs for our current care team to manage. Many places were closed, and we had to absorb the dogs we had been training.

Ways you can help:

Love, comment, and share this post.
Love, comment, and share this post until she's adopted. Make her your mission.
Participate in and refer people to use our behavioral services (these fund a portion of our program and help people keep their pets in their homes).
Visit the sanctuary. We need helpers and even have an on-site apartment; of course, we love guests!
Volunteer by cleaning and donation sorting at the Lenexa location.
Fundraise or make a donation.

Meet Wednesday, the blanket-burrowing, sky-scolding queen of cuddles. This girl’s snuggle game is Olympic-level—she’ll wrap herself in blankets until she looks like a little ghost, then pop out to sprint around the room like it’s her personal haunted house tour.

She’s missing a few canines, but don’t worry—Wednesday still chomps bones like a pro. Her kisses? A tad gummy, a lot sweet. Storms, however, bring out her inner weather warrior. If thunder dares rumble, she charges outside barking, as if to say, “Not on my watch, clouds!”

A bit shy at first, Wednesday just needs some treats, patience, and a sprinkle of love to open up. Once she’s in your circle, she’ll stick by you every day of the week—loyal, affectionate, and hilarious.

Wednesday’s hanging out in the Kansas City metro, but if you’re her perfect match, she’ll pack her blankets and head your way. Adoption comes with the ongoing support of The Pet Connection for her training needs.

Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 any day of the week to meet Wednesday—your new favorite day.

🚀 Houston: We Have a Beefcake! 🚀

Meet Houston—a 75+ pound, four-year-old boxer mix with muscles, manners, and major charm. Just look at that profile. Behold his majestic water pose. This boy’s a beefcake in every sense of the word.

But don’t let the brawn fool you—Houston’s got brains, too! He knows sit, down, stay, high five, and wait. Learning tricks is one of his favorite hobbies, right behind sprinting around the yard like a goofball and battling the garden hose like it personally offended him. His ultimate favorite? Tug of war. (He’ll even let you win sometimes, because Houston is generous and humble like that.)

Houston’s ideal day? Just hanging out with his person, doing a whole lot of nothing together. He’s a little shy when meeting new people, but give him a few minutes and you’ll unlock his best feature: champion-level snuggles. He lives to sit in your lap—yes, all 75 pounds of him—and he’s happiest curled up next to his favorite human.

This sweet boy is also housetrained and kennel trained. In fact, he does some of his finest napping in his crate while patiently waiting for you to come home. And when you do, whether it’s been five minutes or five hours, he’ll greet you with a wildly wagging nub of a tail and a full-body wiggle that will absolutely make your day.

Houston’s looking for a quiet, kid-free home where he can be your one and only. He’d love a fenced yard where he can stretch those legs and practice his signature splash moves.

Houston is staying in the Kansas City metro, but transport might be available to the right home.
If you'd like to learn more about adopting or fostering Houston, please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387.

✨ Meet Bubba — the goofy sweetheart who’ll keep you smiling.✨

Bubba has been with us for 4 years, and he’s truly one of a kind. He’s about 7.5 years old, ~55 lbs, and a handsome caramel and black Rottweiler mix who’ll make you laugh every single day.

This boy is silly and animated — he’s got a bazillion expressions and loves rolling on his back, kicking the cushions, and being the happy-go-lucky character he is.

Bubba’s journey started tough: he was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and had to be resuscitated at birth. Because of that, he likely has a bit of brain damage, which might be why he can be nervous during transitions or big changes.

But in a patient, loving home, that’s not a problem at all — and his affectionate, goofy personality shines.

💛 Bubba’s ideal home:
✅ He adores kids ❤️
✅ He’s lived around cats and done fine
✅ He should not live with small dogs and is very selective with other dogs — best as your one-and-only or with a carefully matched friend
✅ A calm, patient adopter or foster who can help him feel safe as he settles in

💥 Bubba is one of the dogs we’re urgently trying to place because our sanctuary is stretched to its limits. We provide exceptional care to the pets, and we're not willing to compromise on that.

📞 Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 today to learn about Bubba!

✨ Meet Georgie — a well-loved dog who urgently needs a home or foster. ✨

Georgie has lived with The Pet Connection for almost two years, and we’ve cared for him as if he were our own — with toys, enrichment, love, and attention beyond what most shelters can provide.

But here’s the hard truth:

👉 We originally opened our Raytown facility specifically to help behavioral dogs from area humane societies — dogs like Georgie who needed extra time and care.
👉 When we could no longer find staff to sustain that work, we made the incredibly difficult decision to close the facility.
👉 It broke our hearts to let go of that space, so we moved Georgie and the others to our main sanctuary, hoping we’d place them quickly or find help.

Neither has happened… and although Melody and Jason, and a small team work tirelessly every single day to provide excellent care, they simply can’t keep up forever.

During Prime Week, supporters sent Georgie toys — and watching this sweet, anxious, slightly under-socialized boy enjoy those simple gifts is a beautiful reminder of how much he deserves a home of his own.

💛 About Georgie:

3 years old, big, goofy, affectionate.
Anxious and shy at times, but ready for a patient foster or adopter.
Could live with a friendly, social female dog.
Needs an adult-only home where he can feel safe.

📞 Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 today if you can foster or adopt.

📍 Kansas City metro — transport available for the right home.

👉 Other ways you can help if you can’t adopt or foster:

Come to the sanctuary to help with projects.
Spend a weekend at our on-site apartment to help with animal care.
Send a donation to help cover Georgie’s care — because the truth is, they can’t keep fundraising and taking care of this many animals without help. www.thepetconnection.net

Please share and help Moss find a forever or foster home!

He's quite the cutie patootie and has all kinds of amazing qualities. For example, he's housetrained, he knows a long list of cues (sit, stay, come, touch, shake, down, find it), and he's highly treat-motivated — perfect for continued training or just fun enrichment.

Moss's ideal home?
✅ Quiet, adult-only
✅ Confident, polite dog friends welcome — but no pushy players!
✅ A human who will let him settle at his pace and appreciate his sensitive, playful nature.

The comforter was not Georgie's. But Georgie liked the comforter, so he sat on it while it was still in the black plastic donation bag. Now the comforter is Georgie's, and Georgie is happy.

Adopt Georgie by calling or texting The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387. Georgie's in the KC metro, but Georgie and his comforter are cool to travel pretty much anywhere.
