Salacia Farms

Salacia Farms Salacia Farms is an Aquaponics farm. Our goal is to supply the local community with fresh, chemical free fruits and vegetables.

Aquaponics is the cultivation of fish and plants together in a constructed, re-circulating ecosystem utilizing natural bacterial cycles to convert fish waste to plant nutrients. This is an environmentally friendly, natural food growing method that harnesses the best attributes of aquaculture and hydroponics without the need to discard any water or filtrate or add chemical fertilizers. In addition

we are building a state of the art facility that will be as self-sustaining as it can be. We will add solar power and geo-thermal heating to provide additional heating to our greenhouses in the winter and used for cooling in the summer months. This is to use the least amount of additional power as we can. Our goal is to provide the local community with fresh produce that is grown without the use of chemicals in an eco-friendly environment.

Hello everyone. As many of you know our farm closed last year.
Well if you're a small farm or looking to start one we are having a farm equipment sale. We have sold many things over the last year, but we still have a bunch to get rid of, especially if you're interested in aquaponics or hydroponics. We need to be off the property in less than a month, 3rd week of March is the goal. You can message us or contact Gus @ 801-573-3673 to schedule a time to come over and see what's available.

Hello friends, I've had a few questions about plant starts for this year and realized I never posted that our little farm closed at the end of September last year. We would like to thank all of you that helped support this project over the last 5 yrs. Unfortunately we where never able to make it actually work, probably my terrible marketing and management skills. It was an awesome experience and we met amazing individuals in our local community because of it. We wish you the best on this and all upcoming growing seasons. Check out wasatch community gardens plant sale and Utah infinity gardens plant sale this year to get prime starts, I believe both are happening mothers day weekend like ours was.

Hello friends of the farm. If you are interested in getting into hydroponics or aquaponics we are parting out our big system. This is a chance to get started at a very low price. We still love our small backyard system. Scaling up not so much, but our 800 gallon system has been awesome and easy to maintain. Feel free to message us with any questions. Gus is certified through a couple aquaponics gurus classes and happy to share his knowledge.

Hello friends of the farm. We are reaching out to you in hope of finding homes for our tomatoes and peppers. We have seriously over produced compared to our market and it's demand. This has by far been our most successful year of growing both. We have 6 varieties of cherry tomatoes, 5 varieties of heirloom slicers, jalapenos, bell, Anaheim, Cheyenne, and lunchbox peppers. We also have lemon cucumbers and striped Armenian cucumbers. If you know any chefs, artisans or you yourself are interested please contact us. Feel free to share and tag.

With a heavy heart I have to inform you all that today our farm had to break are no spray rule. It's the first time in three years, our farm has sprayed any type of pesticide or herbicide. We had to use triple-action neem oil, certified organic and documented as the least harmful organic pesticide herbicide to stop the aphid and powdery mildew pressure. We plan on losing 20% of our crop to pests and disease every season. We are currently losing 60 to 80% due to aphids and powdery mildew. So we had to make the decision to spray and save what crop we have left and hopefully give our starts a better chance on their future. It has been an educational process. We now better understand the amount of beneficial insect habitat we have to create inside our hoop houses. We also understand or better understand the amount of air flow we have to recirculate in those houses so powdery mildew has less of a chance of setting in. Trying to grow deep organic in our local conditions is a constant adaptation process and we get better season by season year by year. So if you purchase our product from our local distributors, please understand that we are currently using neem oil and be sure that you are not part of the small % of the Earth's population that might be allergic.
Sincerely, farm manager ~Gus~
